I used to work for Melton back in 2000-2001. I had alot of fun with the company. The pay was good. I used to stay out for 3 months then put in to go home and the next day my dispatcher would route me through home for a week. I left because I went straight from being in the Navy and gone all the time to being a OTR truck driver and being gone all the time. I was in Milwaukee the day before christmas and my dispatcher qualcommed me to see if I wanted to go home for christmas or stay out and I wanted home so she found me a load going home and I was here for christmas and new years. The weekend miles do kinda suck but was a relief for me because I took loads during the week that were almost 3k I would load on Monday morning and unload friday then pick-up friday afternoon and drop monday morning so the 500 miles on the weekend wasn't bad for me.They let me have my Doberman Pincher on the truck with me so that was cool. All in all back them it was a great company I think maybe 500 drivers at most. I'm not sure how it is now.
If any of that guys on here that drive for them now see "Spanky" tell him "THe Mustang" from ohio said hello.mustang970 Thanks this. -
I think this board is over run with people who are just dissatisfied with life. I always ask, if there is no good trucking company to work for, why not get a new line of work?
I just got off the phone with the Melton Recruiter and I am on my way to their website to fill out my app. I am wih CRST now, and under contract, but they are playing alot of games with me and my partners and now I am sitting at home making no money and the other guys on my team are sitting in purgatory on Long Island because they refused a load. I was supposed to be back on the truck yesterday.....So it's not that I am dissatisfied with CRST and I am not gonna do too much bad mouthing, but I really wanna be solo and I want to do Flatbed and with CRST, you have to have 8 mos. experience to go to their Malone Flatbed division.
The recruiter from Melton was really cool and she sounded like she was hot too....haha. I would have asked to bring my Put Bull with me, but we got divorced......lol. Basically she told me once I hit my 3 month mark with CRST, which is May 11, to call her and she will schedule me for orientation....biggest perks for me are solo driving, no OTR trainer crap and cash money for orientation.
Thanks for all the good replies on this company, as for the others......Burger King and Wal-Mart are hiring greeters, check em' out, but I have a feeling you would still be on some message board trashing them too becase some of you are just never happy.mustang970, Roscopeco and TopHat1962 Thank this. -
Leaving this Sunday for Tulsa...wish me luck! Anything about flatbed securement that might be helpful would be appreciated!

Just remeber you can never use too many chains on a coil and don't let glass get wet or you loose your load to the hammer. Pay attention in there training class for tarping and for coil chaining and you will be ok.

i work for melton too, if ur parked at a terminal and the temperatures permit ur not suppose to idle. Ive heard of guys getting fired recently for getting told to turn their truck off and not doing it. But theres truck stops just up the road from just about all our terminals so i go there and idle away
.
And welcome aboard, Melton is a great company, ive been here a year and have been loving every minute of it. Plenty of miles and i get home everytime i want no problems.Roscopeco Thanks this. -
Thanks SnoFox, I have a friend in Cape Coral I just found out...I am supposed to stop in and see her whenever I get a chance. I am just glad to get away from where I am now and get back on the road.

I am headed up to Tulsa Sunday for orientation.
I just wasn't happy pulling vans and I can find very little bad about this company aside from the obvious disgruntled employee. I hope Melton can be a home for me for a while, I am not a fan of job hopping.Skunk_Truck_2590 Thanks this. -
Halfway through with orientation. Aside from a bout with a bad 1/4 lb'r on Tuesday making me spend half the day throwing up, seems like a stand up company. We will see soon enough. I am pretty excited though, this seems like the kind of work I want to be doing.
