This has got me way confused. Im looking to purchase a truck when i get back to the USA and reading this thread has stumped me. Over here in Australia we have all makes of trucks pulling doubles and triples with doubles weighing 140k+ and triples up around 180k running at 70mph and wanting more, running 18speed eatons opti cruise autos and 12sp autos without a problem averaging 5mpg which truck in the US will give the same.

did you ever hear any of us old timer talk about a "twin stick" transmission setup?
that is a 4,5 or 6 speed main trans with a 3 or 4 speed AUXILIARY trans and the aux is
shifted 2 or 3 times for every main trans shift.

you will notice that many drivers running twin sticks have a different knob on each stick

In austrailia, are the roads mostly flat or are there hills?
With regards to Cab size, what are the maximum length a tractor can be in Canada? Can I have a Volvo 780HH tractor?? -
Yes. I would actually like to learn how to drive one of these monsters. Looks complicated. I'm sure there's some kind of method which in an emergency situation, this would all go out the window.
LOL. -
I am sorry. This cannot be true. I read a post from a 0-1 year trucker that said automatics are superior in every way and cheaper to maintain. He knew that because the three biggest Youtube truckers said so and they all had automatics.

You guys should try my 4.33's and 22.5 LP.

I've got a couple trucks with 4.33's but they are on 24.5 tall rubber. They will pull the world up a mountain but the fuel mileage sucks.

Re I-shift, maybe the transmission was destroyed and could not be sent in for a core exchange. (I do know the transmission was locked up solid) But, I was at another Volvo shop and they quoted 28K for an I-shift transmission.
First of all, I can not believe an I-shift transmission costs less than a manual transmission to repair.
Even now as an example, look at the cost to rebuild an automatic transmission for a pickup vs a manual transmission.
The I-shift has a sizable warranty period 750K miles if I remember seeing this. That's great. After warranty or if damage to the transmission is due to lack of maintenance can possible run up into these high numbers. -
I do hear the I-shift is capable of 120,000lbs which I think is cool. I would imagine for heavy loads, the transmission is able to keep the shock (jerking) of shifting to a minimal since it's an automatic.
Thats's pretty cool.
