Oh yeah, forgot to mention, re-capping won't be much help if the finals are blown.

I have no SWR on my stock Cobra 29. It moves just a hair bit on channel 1, 20, and 40. It's right there where the green color line start. Right at the edge.. Yet I have talked to trucker friends 13 miles away. At 15 miles I'm told I not so good and lose signal.
I have a 7ft long Firestik. Like I said, no SWR, but works fine for me. All I really need is 3 to 5 miles ahead to know traffic conditions...

I have no SWR on channel 1, 20, and 40 on my stock Cobra 29. It looks like it wants to move but doesn't. It's right where the green color lines start. It's way under 1 SWR reading. I have a 7tf firestik. I have talked to trucker friends 13 miles away clear, and 14, 15 miles they lose my signal. I didn't have to do anything but installed my 7ft firestik. No adjustment required on this one... All I really need is only 3 to 5 miles signal to know traffic flow or accidents...

Ironsoul, in your case, low SWR seems to be a good sign that your antenna and coax are allowing all of the transmitter's signal out. So, it sounds good. A high SWR means that there is less signal going out, and if it gets too high, it could damage your radio.

    Keep on truckin'.

    rabbiporkchop and Ironsoul Thank this.

    Thanks,
Being an OTR trucker, it helps a lot.
My 7ft firestik antenna is 13ft from the ground to the top, maybe that helps, being the firestik has the coil at the top..
I'm learning a lot here about CBs, thanks to all.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Got any pictures? I'm sure there's people in here that could learn from your experience.
