I can't help but ask why did you stick around for six months working for free? After six weeks you should of turned in the truck.

I've had one recruiter who began calling me in Nov. 2013 and has been calling once a month, every month to see if I was ready to start. I told her I wasn't due to graduate until May. 2014. Finally the last time she called me I told her I needed a job guarantee in writing, it was faxed to the school that day. To me this shows a company that's hungry for drivers.

Because we really didn't know what else to do...hind sight is 20/20 after all and being naive we thought things would get better...they didn't~slow learners obviously.
But I won't make that mistake ever again. If ya run hard work hard follow the rules then I should be making money...if not then I will be DTR...:biggrin_25525:

Because we were naive in thinking things would get better... This quote thing is kinda handy... You can bet I won't same mistake on company again, work hard, run hard =make $$$ IF Im not making money I will go to where I will.
But Roehl sounds like a company that truly cares andn that will be a welcomed relief

Dont think a company cares because the recruiter is really nice to you. Some mega carriers are better than others, but none "care". Roehl is a good first year company, but I've heard frim plenty of people not enjoying it there. Especially if you are the type that needs more than 2 weeks training, thats all you get at roehl.

I am gonna go out on a limb with this one .

I actually talked to a guy the other day that drives the Hershey foods dedicated , in Palmyra PA . he said he is verry happy , but then again he Is home every night and drives a daycab.
Plus , the failure rate witch every company has is partial to the guys that go into it , to buy new shoes and hats to match each pair , and I will stop at that last part , before I offend.

Not sticking up for them or anything , not ever sure why I wrote that . Oh well to much to delete. Lol

Let me share a little insight being that I was in your exact shoes a few years ago. I graduated high school and went to a local university for 2 years. Once I had my basics done I found out that a university in the southern part of the state had a flight school and since flying has been my dream since I was 4, I transferred and join the flight program. They explained that the flight time is paid through tuition (tuition you pay at the beginning of the semester). They sent me a bill for around $1500 for the class which I paid before going. Once I got down there, in my 2nd month I receive another bill for $2,000. I paid it thinking that maybe it was because of the books and flight gear I bought etc. The next month, I get a $3,000. I call and they said, "yes it is tuition but you pay it every month and its $150/hr for plane rental, $6.00/gal fuel etc". I had already flown another month so I get another bill for $3500 and then a final bill of $2,000. In 6 months of being down there, I spent a little over $20,000 on school. I came back home to my wife and told her that I was going to start driving to pay that off and save up so I could finish my license because I was so close to finishing. After all, my dad has been driving 33 years and that is all I've ever been around and all through the years of growing up I was in his truck every summer. That was 3 years ago.

Now, I will be 25 years old next month. I now own a big house, 6 acres of land, have the same beautiful wife, a 3 month old son, a fully loaded 2011 chevy truck and my wife has a 2012 camry. Once you start making money in the business (and I mean real money), you will not look at school again. Do I want to finish my license? Yes. I am in the process of buying my own truck so that I can eventually save up enough to finish my license within the next 10 years. Will I ever go back to school and finish my degree? No. Why would I go back to spending 10's of thousands of dollars (potentially 100 or 200 thousand) to go work somewhere making the same or just slightly better than I am now. I told my wife when I came home from college, "I'm going to drive for a couple of years and go back to school". As I type this from my couch, I have a load ready for me at the yard waiting to be in Reidsville, NC monday night at 10pm.

If you're getting into trucking, you're starting a career. Careers don't last 1 - 2 years. They last a lifetime.

Also, stay away from CRE. Stay far away.

    Swamprat55 and tangerineGT Thank this.

I heard even if you get hired at a regional airline after school you'll be lucky to make $25k a year. What is your opinion of this?
