I do look it over , probably should have left the question in my head and not here . Lol
I have a feeling that was not smart .
One day I was walking from a rest area to the truck , I walked the long way around the back of the trailer found the air hose spring broke , hoses were about 8 inches Off the ground , now if I had done a " by the book " i may have not walked around , and no it wasn't broke when I left where I was parked either , because as I walked to the truck with my morning coffee , and some cinnabon it was fine . -
it was just something I thought about , and figured I would ask for input from others. This may go bad for me . Lol -
I wonder how many here do post trip inspections on trailers. Seems I find about 10% of trailers I hook up to are missing mudflaps. Got so bad I carry one with me and tie it around the post to get me down the road. Went 600 miles like that one time. When I dropped the trailer I called our breakdown so not to screw the next driver. Like I would have been screwed had I not had the mudflap.
tangerineGT Thanks this. -
Yes, I do a pti every morning. I don't want to be the dummy driving down the road with flat tires, air lines dragging, bumpers hanging off, loose lug nuts, and open rear doors (all of which I've seen). Put aside the government and/or company requirement to do a pre-trip inspection: what good excuse do you have for not doing one? I get lazy sometimes with other things, but a pti is always done. People on this forum are fond of saying "You are the captain of the ship" (usually to avoid doing work); why does this not apply in making sure your ship is road-worthy and safe to operate on the highway?

I have yet in my15 years out here looked out my front window at the truckstop
and seen any driver do a full pre- trip inspection, and if they say they checked everything on that list
theyre lying.Bayle, Vito, BigBluePeter and 4 others Thank this. -

Does a post-trip count as a pre-trip for the next day?
-
I will say it !!!
I have never done a full to the letter pretrip EVER !!!!
Not one single time in 33 years !!!!
There ya go now all of you holy rollers hop on and have fun !!!!
I will even add this .....I will never do a full to the letter pretrip EVER !!!
How do you like me now ????
I have not and will not do the pretrip by the book because I work in the real world not in some book worms idea of the real world .
I do know my equipment better than most drivers do because I have been over it from one end to the other and top to bottom more times than a Prime driver gets passed a day .
That is one advantage to keeping trucks along time.
Things can still go wrong I am aware of that but I can honestly say that I have only that happen less than a handful of times in 33 years and the times it did a pretrip would not have changed a thing.sirstealth, tangerineGT, Ebola Guy and 5 others Thank this.
