Why not use one of the computer based logs? the ones that run on YOUR computer, that is. It's as legal as the pre-printed kind, and (for me, anyway) a heck of a lot easier to maintain.

When you get waved over for inspection, just grab the keyboard and print out the relevant page (I'd be printing the daily log from yesterday as soon as I get up in the morning). If the inspector asks what you are doing, just tell him you are updating your log to show "on duty, not driving". According to the FMCSR, if the past 6-7 days logs are current, they have to give you time to bring today's log up to date. (I dunno if state laws can over-ride that)

Of course, Logs is the ultimate authority on this subject. I'm just a student with a book

Current in DOT eyes is that if you are behind the wheel your line should be drawn up/down to the drive line! You don't have to be updated to on-duty until you stop any how. SO they should not nail you on that for log not current.

Yes the program is awesome. Drivers daily log!

I had a simalar problem with a company. Get additional log books and do keep your logbook as you do right now. If you are scanning then you must have to tear them out of the book. So wash your hands, find a nice table and make them scan in pages real pretty, hold only the previous seven days, when out longer you can put them in an envelope which is addressed and seal it, this is now considered mail, federal protection. If the DOT wants to see it, he has to go get a postmaster. Or you can just mail them to your house. It's a pain but it works, the alternative is just take more time and keep it neat, I used a nice book holder.

would you believe this company will NOT give out extra logs!! one a month and they write it down when you get one. They DO NOT want you redoing logs, they want the original regardless of of any corrections. but then of course they turn around and complian about them. can't win. Luckilly the previouse driver of my truck has a secret stash of them

Yeah they had drivers sign for them with us also and it's more trouble than it's worth but keeping more than a 2 month supply can be dangerous to the driver. If changes with the log book happens you won't be updated if you don't get a "new" log book or you cause problems with my ladies/guy and then I get upset :biggrin_25523:

But yeah that's not cool you really do need at least 1 extra log book on the truck for "just in case" in my opinion. It's the drivers keeping 10 months extra that is causing the issue of companies making you sign for them. Because if they quit then usually the people throw the log books away. they just trashed $40.00 worth of stuff that's still usable :). Sp's?? Sorry :biggrin_2557:
