It sure is. Another useful tool is the Internet. I use Google maps all the time for the satellite imagery, since my atlas doesn't bother with bridges that aren't on a state route, US highway, or interstate.
-
roflmbo..........Well computers can be wrong.......but when you see a bridge comming up, don't you look for the bridge heigth sign ?
Double L, LavenderTrucker and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
The computer's not wrong... garbage in - garbage out. It's the geek programmer that's never sat behind the wheel of a CMV and his $$$-blinded management.
That and trusting a stupid box with a female voice. Go figure.
Like what was said earlier... Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas with a good dose of whatever internet mapping site you like! Do your homework! -
WHY? Do drivers love to make them selves feel better, when another driver screws up.?
Is this a competition thing? is this a ego trip?of who is the ''best trucker'' of all time.
Does another person's mistakes and misfortune fill your inflated ego with a sence of being better?
The driver screwed up,no biggie,i thought everyone has screwed up in this lifetime?
I no woman and men with 40 years that tear crap up.I no students that tear crap up.
I guess i don't get this.I don't base my ego and self-esteem on another man or woman's mistakes and failure..
People seem to lavish when someone ''screws up''..Not sure why?
I guess it's a feeling of ''one upsmanship''I guess drivers ''keep score''
Because i no for sure beyond a shadow of a doubt''everyone has tore crap up'' and made foolish, mental mistakes that cost them..
It's the ####y drivers that will have there day when they least expect it.
One thing i have learned''do not ever get ####y'' with 80,000 lb peice of machinery.it will bite ya...Double L and badcompany Thank this. -
This is not about "oneupmanship" this is about common sense and safety. If you strickly rely on your gps you can be making a HUGE mistake like this driver did. Now not only did he get a ticket ,he destroyed property , and could possibly lose his job. On top of that he could've compromised the strength of the bridge and hurt people when the accident happened.
Yes people DO screw up and have accidents. But I think you are erroneous in your statement" everyone has tore a cap up". Not everyone has done that, because if everyone had done it, either bridges would be higher or trucks would be shorter.
Making an excuse for poor trip planning, and disreguard for safety is unacceptable in my book. Accidents DO happen which is why they are called accidents. This was TOTALLY preventable therefore UNACCEPTABLE IN MY OPINION.Double L, 1pissedoffdriver, future driver and 3 others Thank this. -
Well according to every insurance company and driver mill out there, they are all ''preventable''.Hate to tell ya that..
And like i said''####y no it all drivers'' will have there day.I have seen this time and time again play out..No one is an ''exception'' to the rule.
Stay humble..when dealing with 80,000 lbs of force. -
I do know that all companies feel that all accidents are preventable. DUH Just because I only have been driving for a year doesn't mean I haven't been in the industry for long. I have been involved with trucking and drivers since the early 80's. I have had a driver scalp a box truck in Milwaukee and say he didn't realize he hit the bridge. LIE !! He completely tore the roof off, he was also 20 miles away from where he should have been.
if he had bothered to read the signs before going under the bridge he could have prevented this from happening.
I am not ####y when it comes to driving. The minute you lose respect for the road you need to get off of it. Like the sea the road is deadly mistress that will destroy you if you don't heed the warning signs.
But I REFUSE to make excuses for people who don't heed them. And I don't feel I am any better than them either. It can happen to anyone but this type of accident is inexcusable in my mind. Call a cop and have them block traffic so you can get safely out of there. I would rather have that ticket to explain than scalping a truck personally.LavenderTrucker and Double L Thank this. -
I actually believe what you are saying.Thats not my beef.
My beef is and you will see this and learn this...On the road ''drivers'' see a wreck and then talk about it on c.b. radio and go into this mind set of being ''better'' and pretty much belittle a human being..
The ironic part is there is one thing they fail to do as being a good human being not filled with ''judgement'' and ''critical comments''.
Not a one of them stop and help even though the driver screwed up...
to me thats ''chicken ####''
I was taught at all costs to stop and help...We don't see this anymore.Actually we see more 4 - wheelers stop and help ''truckers'' then other drivers.
It is what it is.
