what he said lol.......
you'll find most of us on here ( and there are a few ) who have advanced ratings came to trucking as a 2nd career and already had them before getting in the truck. I got mine as a kid the old fashioned way, washing planes and cutting grass and doing odd jobs around the airport to get my private, then as I got other jobs paid my way an hour or so at a time through commercial/instrument/multi and then got a flying job as my hours reached the requirements.
it is possible to do if you aren't out weeks at a time and then only home a day or two. you have to have continuity in the learning the skill set required or it's just a waste of time and money. and it requires quite a bit of both. very few actually solo and get the license for private in the minimum number of hours....much less more advanced ratings.
but is is possible if you're with a home weekly company and can make the commitment of time and cash when you're home

In e liver this list II s highly inaccurate.

#1. I'm home every night actually, it's the cash thing that's currently holding me back.
#2. Washing planes and cutting grass would get me about 10 feet down the taxiway in a garage-built ultralight made out of balsa wood and bed sheets in todays economy. -
It is expensive. It was costing me $150/hr for plane rental (C172R/S), $40/hr for instructor, and $6.87/gal. Holds 53 gallons and even if I only burned 10 they charged for 53. I was flying 2 hours a day 3 days a week. Took me a few months to go broke before I could finish. Still have all of my gear and books. One day I will finish.

Good post. I guess I am surprised more drivers were not aware of this. These lists have looked like this for the past 20 years or so that I have seen them.
Everybody seems to have the perception that police or fireman have the most dangerous occupation. The basic fact is a cop is more likely to commit suicide than die at work! Yet it not hard at all to find a truck driver with a dozen stories about seeing the results of a driver asleep at the wheel.
It really puts in perspective the situation when you have a dispatcher or the like ridiculing a driver when he says he has a safety issue.bigred81 Thanks this. -

Used to be #1.
I was surprised it was passed up by logging.
We do both here in the PAC NW, commercial fishing is #### dangerous work, the ocean is an unforgiving environment and these guys work in rough seas often in the dark and in fridged temps.
