I am looking into Jones Motors (Hot Shot Express) as advertised in the back of Land Line Mag and they say their last quarter average pay was $2.64 a mile. I assume this is deck freight. Can anyone working there presently verify this? I have a tractor and 48' step paid for and my running costs are $1.04 a mile so that makes me think I can put $1.60 in my pocket on an average!?!?
Jones Motors? Realistic rates?

Thats 2.64 per mile gross with fuel surcharge, you get 75% or whatever their pay is plus 100% of the fuel surcharge and nothing for deadhead.

I'm sure that figure is also loaded, computer miles, only.

My guess would be that with loaded and empty miles that number would equate to 1.25-1.50.

That is for open deck and it is gross...not to the truck. I'm leased to them. Depending on where you like to run you can probably figure on $1.50 - 2.00/mile to the truck for all miles (less $ towards either coast and more $ in the rust belt). The hardest part is learning what agents have good freight in areas for what you like to do. The first year is surely the hardest because of the learning curve. Feel free to contact me with ant q's.

Hows the freight in your area and the pittsburgh area. Are their a lot of agents in the Jones network?
Road Killer Thanks this. -
Freight is so so...I don't cross the OH/PA line much, not sure what the Pittsburgh agents are doing anymore. I think Jones has maybe around 150 agents or so around the US...that's a guesstimate. It seems that a lot of our agents are also agents for other co such as Greentree, Admiral Merch, etc. I like being here b/c they leave me alone and I mostly do what I want...as long as I stay out of trouble. My equipment is paid for and I don't have any deductions other than for tripak. If the economy would pick up, I would say come on over but as it is now I would stay where you are if you are surviving. Your success here depends on you though.

The freight base here is not good, you will get in an area and have to sit for days to get something out. The agents do not have much frieght and you have to rely on the load boards to get you out...There are a couple agents that do have frieght and if you can get into their area... some of the freight pays well, but there is to much inconsistancy with keeping the truck loaded and you will have to sit.

I am considering leasing on to Jones. I have a 48 foot Step with Ramps. The recruiter told me they have so much freight and not enough Trucks. There should be no problem getting $2.50 to the Truck, according to him. I currently have my own authority and use the Load boards with mixed results.
Before I park my authority I would like to know
Does Jones have a lot of Freight ? I live in North East PA and am involved in another Business so I would not be out all the time (maybe 60000 miles per year), What would I expect to earn with Jones.
I really would like to hear these questions answered by someone currently leased on to them.
PM me if you wantRoad Killer Thanks this. -
