I'm going to be getting my CDL at the local community college, so I don't plan to go through the company-sponsored program. Rather not chain myself to someone for that long.

Stevens is around my area (Chicago) and they seem to have nice equipment, a good rider policy, etc.

I hear that they're super into pressuring you into leasing a truck. Now, that's a no. Always been a no. Not leasing a truck.

Other than that, are there any other issues with the company?

They do not pressure you to enter the Lease program. A person with the program will give a talk when you are in orientation to tell you about the program, but they don't whip you and tell you that you must sign up.

If you can put Stevens Transport in the title of this thread I'm sure you'll get more looks. Good question!

I worked there for 3 yrs. they do bug you constantly about leasing. Just say say no and they won't punish you for it, though (unlike some others I've heard about).

otr training is first rate. If you complete their training, you will be a good, safe driver.

hometime sucks. They expect you to stay out 5-6 weeks at a time (recruiter will tell you 3, but that won't happen unless you live in Texas).

pm me if you want any specifics and good luck.

I don't have enough posts for it to let me PM anyone. so I do hope it's okay if i just post them here.

Are the APUs battery or diesel?
    - Are they well-maintained?
What kind of transmissions do they have?
How much does the health plan cost per month?
Are miles determined direct or practical?
What is the starting pay and what kind of bonuses do they have?

Its a diesel generator that charges the batteries which power the inverter. They do PM's on them

Health just for me costs $240 a month

    8 Speeds, governed at 62. 66 after 2 years

Miles are practical. Plan on -30 miles avg.

Training pay is a joke... After taxes around 300 a week, until you go solo. Then you make .26 your first 6 months, then .28. after a year you get .30. After 2 years I am not sure if you get .32 or a half cent raise.... yes, half a cent.

Bonuses? if you run 8000 miles for the month you can top out at a $150 fuel bonus, if you hit 7.5 mpg. 7.2 and a little below that is $120.

They're a good company, just a little cheap.

They always message you on the Qualcomm about how great leasing is and how much money you can make. I did it, lost my ###. I was punished for not wanting to go to NYC as alliance, they dropped me down to 2k miles a week, just enough to cover all my payments. They also don't let you do anything to the truck while your leasing, like have a pet. After a year solo and zero accidents or tickets they really started to pester me to become a trainer. I had the trainer recruiter calling me once every 3-4 weeks asking if I was ready and when I said no, he would ask why do I not want to become a trainer. It started to get annoying. Also, I was scheduled for hometime on the 20th, I gave them 7 weeks advance notice as I go out longer then usual. I didn't get home until the 28th. I'm in a fairly easy spot to. After I quit alliance and ended up in a brand new 2014 truck as company, I started to get the good miles.

The alliance program is a joke in my opinion. The pay is so low, I know a lot of o/o that are leased onto companies and they won't even turn there truck over for anything under 2.25/mile.

My DM got annoying, always asking if I'm ok for OTD when I am running a day ahead of schedule easy. I didn't want to say anything though because he was pretty nice.

They aren't to bad of a company, my biggest problem is the low pay. They are one of the lowest in the industry...

That is very wrong. Stevens does NOT pay Practical miles, they pay based on 'Movers Guide" miles.

    Dryver Thanks this.
