Yeah I crack me up too. How was your day today? Did the instructor bring milk and cookies?
Dinomite and Swamprat55 Thank this. -
So you can make $75k a yr just hauling water?

stick with it. the school is to make sure you can pass the test to get your CDL. pay your dues, go owner op, watch your money and send them a copy of your settlement. the instructors only get a crappy hourly wage because most of them cant drive anyways. stay positive, you're not the first, nor the last. but only you can achieve the goal of making it. Paying dues sucks. almost as bad as working union and going thru their crap........

I respectfully disagree. training, training, training. Anything you pick up helps. Once you are out there, you have to figure it out by yourself. The 160 hours is only so most people can JUST pass the test. That has nothing to do with driving. I am an owner op with multiple oilfield trucks. I will hire the students that stick with the long class vs the students that just take the class to get a cdl. I make a significant investment when I hire drivers. Someone who sticks with the long program is tops on my list for hiring, even over a veteran driver.NDBADLANDS Thanks this.

In theory, I see your position. But let's get real here. The longer courses are no better than the shorter courses. In my training, while we were on practice driving on the highways around the town, the instructors made us stop our trucks at a coffee shop every day, where they could sit themselves down and play video games while the students waited, and waited, and waited. That went on for 40 minutes or so every day. It was not a lunch break, but the middle of the afternoon. As far as learning to pass the driving tests for the CDL, the school had a large lot to practice parking, but it was all done by formula with cones, and no way represented real-life situations, or developed skills. Watched lots of videos. Memorized pre-trip by rote, with no mechanical explanations ever. Guess what? This school was PTDI certified, too. Did I mention the class was subjected to recruiters wasting an hour of our time, twice a week? Now you, sir, say that you would pass up a veteran driver to take a recent graduate? Sorry, but you really don't know what is going on out there. There is very little training in any of these schools. Most carriers know that. Funny you are out of the loop.#

Kinda sounds like western truck schools in central Valley. Turlock. You should report them to your EDD( they fund alot of these places and the accreditation institutions.
My husband did'nt feel safe to drive after he finished there and waited for 4 years and went to a school in Salt Lake (Road Master) after we moved over here. Much better experience, they were much more helpful and very professional.
he went to work for JBS Carries and they have a very strong mentoring program up to 8 week or 15000 miles for the trainee. He and my son team drive for them and are happy with the outcome.
Don't be afraid to go to the top and get answer at your school. Don't let them intimidate you. Remember YOU are paying to be there and for them them to teach you to drive and give you X amount of hours for you behind the wheel ect. to make you a driver. Report them to California DMV at the end of the day, the DMV has authority over them as well. -
It's Advanced Career Institute in the valley, formerly Advanced Truck Driving School. I gave up on this thread, too many trolls. I'm 3 weeks out from dmv test date. I feel good about pretrip, air brakes and my drive. Haven't really gotten too much skill instruction. We will see what's up in the coming weeks. They yard just has a F'ed up environment. Too many chiefs not enough Indians. I'm comfortable with the guys now. Too many instructors calling in sick or off and too many trucks breaking down often. Thanks. I will not even read a troll post.

That's a LOOOOOOOOONG time! Def sounds like your in a crap school, but you know what? Your almost done and you'll leave with you CDL, which is all that really matters. I just got out of school in January and although I'm not crazy about my job *, it pays descent and I'm typically home by 2:30. Don't let a bunch of disgruntled former drivers get you down. There is plenty of money in driving and it's a good career to be in. You should put a review (if you haven't) in the driving school reviews section and see if anybody else has had those issues with them. My school had 3 campuses, I was pretty happy with mine, but from what I heard the other 2 were nothing short of pathetic (from multiple sources) but in the end it all worked out as will the crap your dealing with.
* So you don't take that as me not liking the career I picked, I like driving, But my current job is at a Beverage company, so their's a little too much "other" work that I wasn't supposed to have to do. I do bulk grocery delivery so I'm SUPPOSED to drop my pallets with receiving, get checked in and SEE YA LATER! but it doesn't quite work that way right now. I wind up working in isles, stocking stuff sometimes, product rotation which is supposed to be the job of merchandisers, which they have, sucks. I'll do my time, theirs a lot of great paying jobs out there once you pass your first year or two.
