When I applied for CDL back in 2008, I had a speeding ticket I while riding my motor cycle... it was for 10 over... had no trouble getting into school to get my CDL... but did have trouble with getting hired by companies... I got the ticket in 2008 before going to CDLschool and getting my CDL.

I got a 55 in a 35 in CA two days before I started orientation with my first company I also got a ticket for no lights at night(I had my running lights on and was just about to flip on the headlights, pulling out of a parking lot) both in my personal vehicle. Every company I ever talked to says it's no big. DUI's felonies, seatbelt tickets seem to be the major show stoppers.

Wow just 10 over, some on here are saying no big deal. Did you try several companies before you were hired. You said that you went to CDL school in 2008 and your profile says you have been a driver 0-1 yr. Did it take that long to get a job because of the speeding ticket or was there other reasons you did not start driving sooner.
That would suck to go to school and spend the money and not get hired.

Millis hired me with a 22 over and a 15 over...both in 55 zones in my personal vehicle. Lots of companies told me no because of them though.

Got a 98 in a 70 on I-10 in Florida just last summer. Had my CDL for 3 years but never got a job. A company recruieted me and lobbied their inusrance company to cover me. I cannot get another moving violation for 1 year starting 1-17-14 or they will drop me. No experience was the bigger issue than the ticket was.

I rented a sports car while I was working on a construction job in Jacksonville, was traveling ot Pensacola ot visit my daughter who was stationed there.

I got a 16 over just before I got my cdl. It makes it a little more difficult to find a good job but If you look hard enough you will find a good company to hire you

Never seen no reason to speed like these numbers. I go no more than 7-8 over. Set my cruise control and let it go. Ive gone through so many speed traps on Ohio roads. Ive got over 250k miles logged in the 5 years with my company and not one moving violation. I just seen no reason for it, but to each their own.

Have you driven in the chicago area? Speed limit is 55 in most areas. Traffic goes 65 to 70 in the right lane, 70-80 in the middle and 80 plus on the left. If you dont go at least 10 over it gets unsafe with people tailgaiting and cutting you off. So in the truck i go with the flow of traffic in the slow lane, in the car I take the middle

Emailed a recruiter from a mid size company and he said he can not hire me because he can not get insurance on someone with a major moving violation,
He said anything over 15 mph is a major moving violation and if one of their drivers got a ticket for 15 mph over they would be fired.

Also said most mid size to large companies are all that way.:biggrin_25510:
