I'm looking into Roehl. Fiance and I are in CDL school now at Dootson. Do they have team drivers?

I was wondering where the terminals or drop yards are in Kansas City and Las Vegas, NV? If there are any? I live in Vegas and my boys are in KC. I am going to orientation and trying to "pre-plan" my home time visits and places to park the truck when I am either place.

You picked the right fleet, I drove for Roehl for a little while. I went to York technical College in Rock Hill, SC and both my instructors said that they were an excellent company. One of the instructors drove for H.O Wolding and the other one drove for Schneider. The main thing when you are starting out is to get home time. Like working 7 on and 7 off or 14 on and 7 off...you and your family need to get use to you being away and you need to get use to living twenty four seven in a truck. It's no pic-nic living in a truck it takes some getting use to. it's an 8x8 space. Roehl gives you that option. They also use to let you lease a tractor and be an owner operator, and if things didn't work out for you you could just walk away, no questions asked, nothing against your credit.

I'm assuming you mean trucking school and not high school. If so then yes, you'll just have to go through their week long orientation.

So whats the current pay rate per mile for newbies doing 14/7 and 7/7? How long does training usually last?

    Dropped,

Roehl has a school that you can go through to get your CDL. You pay nothing upfront and never have to pay anything if you drive 120,000 miles for them. If you already have your CDL but no experience, you will have to go to Gary for orientation. They may do it at other locations as well. You will spend about a week in school. Then you will have to go out with a trainer for about 2 weeks on a truck. It is not team dispatched. Your trainer is there to help you get ready to be on the road alone. You do get paid while you are with your trainer. It is $90 a day as long as you are on duty for at least 6 hours.

As for the starting pay, it varies with the division you are in. Also, it varies with the the hometime schedules. Just to give you an idea, on national fleet, van starts at 32 cent per mile. Curtainsides start at 34 cent per mile. Flatbed starts at 37 cent per mile. After three months from the day that you get your own truck, you get a 2 cent per mile raise as long as you had no preventable accidents or tickets. At the 6 month mark, you get another 2 cent per mile raise. Then you switch to the pay choice plan. That is a whole different topic that would take forever to explain. Good luck!

    Trish in SC Thanks this.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. I am currently in the north east region of PA and saw an ad on Craigslist for them and something regarding the 14/7 time frame. Do the dedicated routes pay more? Like north east regional? I have 2 kids and one on the way, so if I could follow my dream and get out of the cubicle and back on the road... but with some form of home time.. That would be a dream come true.

The dedicated routes actually pay a little less per mile. However, the people that I have talked to on those routes say they are consistently getting 3000+ miles a week.
