I have something else to add to my comments.

There is no off duty time, you are still responsible to do things while you are not driving a truck, like get a DOT physical to maintain that license. This is a part that gets me, what people do in their off duty time still counts, you use cannabis or drugs, then you are held accountable above the general population. IT is your choice to get a CDL, no one forces it on you and you agree when you get it to abide by a set of regulations that have been created to apply equally. One thing I think that if you have a confirmed positive is no more CDL - period. This is because I can see what will happen with those who want to use and have a free ride, they will end up screwing all of us in the long run.

I know I sound like an ##### but I have a lot of reasons why I feel that if you can't stop using, you don't need to be in a truck.

Thanks - I'll find out exactly how long it stays on the hair follicles and give it an extra 3-4 months. And yes, I'll quit forever as you say, or until the laws change. Funny, when these discussions come up, folks assume a guy doesn't have the good sense to put his future first. That has never been a problem for me, and by the sounds of it, not for yourself either.

While I have no idea, my personal opinion is that we will see a reclassification of MMJ before Obama leaves office. While I'm not a fan of his, at least decriminalizing MMJ would be something positive. I'll leave it at that, so as not to get political. Hopefully we will see it treated, and tested for in the same way alcohol is today. If not, I'll live without it and go back to man made prescription pills for my driving career.

Lets see if I can get all the words that came to mind in the proper order...

Comprehension (actually, the lack of), condescending, pedantic, incomprehensible..."everyone does the drives"?????

You do know what a conundrum is don't you? You do understand this was a rhetorical exercise not a personal history? Of course not, that would require comprehension which would have hopefully led to a less condescending tone.
If a family member ever finds their appetite waning from chemo and a doctor suggest they use Marijuana I wonder if you will be so pedantic then.

Do you usually refer to people online as "young man"?

In some instances you CAN be doing something and have nothing to worry about. You don't care that the current test they use does not detect impairment? Theoretically you can be STONED SILLY and pass the urinalysis.

A driver could get stoned on his 30, pull out of the rest area and kill someone. If he hasn't had a previous build-up in his system he will pee clean.

Seems to me something that people on both sides of the debate could agree on is the test should be for IMPAIRMENT. There is a cheek swab test that does detect recent use. It is easy to administer on the spot without the driver having to pee in a cup.

    Little Eddy Thanks this.

I think you hit it on the head with the impairment, bac test, blood test, and pee test with alcohol along with the sobriety test all involve how much one is impaired. Now if there was a standardized test that could be used with mj then all would be good.

legal or not those that try to circumvent the laws are the only ones that everyone really needs to be concerned with. As far as alcohol goes now, it's legal but how many times have we seen drivers drinking, and or take alcohol back to their trucks to enjoy. There are far more drivers who obey the laws when it comes to this than those that doesn't think the law applies to them on this type of issue.

fewer than 50% of the commercial account banks in Colorado are willing to do business with Marijuana shops of any stripe. In fact, an article in the paper the other day showed that "black market" banking is still very popular because of this.

    1. possibly

    2. unless they are going to also remove alcohol, it won't happen

    3. again, the same with alcohol

Co-workers brother took Jan. 3rd off from work, he's a driver for Slumberger, he was caught on camera (local tv station report) by his bosses, standing inline at a rec. pot shop. The next day, he was ordered to take a UA, refused and was fired on the spot.

He was fired for refusal to submit to the UA test, which brings me to say this in regard to the legalization of MJ and driving commercial trucks.
Had the driver, "just fessed up" that the test could be positive, before he took the test, that might have saved his job.

There was such a practice in the past, and it's done on the railroad, that before a test you tell them your a user, and the test results could be positive.
Information is gathered, test results come back, your then to seek counseling, and treatment. Your out of service till you've completed your counseling.
Once you've completed the program your then retested, and if your clean, you return back to work, and your now subject to random testing for the next 5 years.
This program is paid for through your health insurance benefits, and remains confidential from your carrier.
All there interested in, is your return to work, and your clean from drugs.
Should you test positive after completing the program, or anytime during the 5 years probation period, your done from driving a commercial truck.
Legal weed is like legal booze no room for it in transportation, with the exception weed stays in your system for a longer period of time.
So because you had your party on your off days, won't hold up should you return to work and test positive later down the road.
To get this type of program, your going to have to sign something that say's you agree to the terms and conditions of this before you'll actually begin the program.
One strike, and your out, this will keep those for recreational use from repeating and testing positive, looking for another break.

Just like you said "it's all about choices"...!
Are they really your friends if they know your in transportation, and illicit drugs can't be in your body, while your on duty driving a commercial truck.
If I was at a party where "pot smoking" was going on, I'd be somewhere other then where their smoking, or I'd just leave.
Loose my lively hood for a "contact high from a good time" the regulation is clear..?
Like part in the name of your carrier..."That's Not To Swift".....:biggrin_25512:
