That's good because your not gonna get rich in the long run either. You can make some good money but don't think $100,000 to you at the end of the year after expenses at your business plan.
Thinking about starting company, buying a truck and hiring a driver.

I see. Did you run some numbers like cost per mile just to operate the truck plus whatever you'll pay your driver? Going the signing on to a company route, most companies pay O/Os around $1.20- $1.50 a mile. If you got your own authority the guys around here say you can't survive just off loadboards, plus who will dispatch the truck if you're busy working?Last edited: Apr 10, 2014

Just because he might not like the replies he shouldn't pay attention to them? I can't tell you how many threads asking "if I buy a truck and put a driver in it will I make money" I have seen on here. The answer is always the same, by the time you pay the driver there will be nothing left over for you.

owning a truck is a full time job, whether you drive it or not. Are you 100% you want to take on 2 full time jobs at the same time?
-
Yeah hes right. Come on here , ask for opinions from some that are drivers ,O/O , fleet owners , co owners, guys that have been there done that , and blow them off like their a bunch of dummies who don't have anything better to do than to make up stories to scare you from success.
read the post that Rank put on here about having a driver that backed out of a load at the last minute, what did he have to do??? As the owner , jump in the truck and complete delivery. -
Keep your day job. You'll need it to pay for the trucking expenses!
-
cant argue with that

Let me see.
Buying new truck with trailer would cost: $200.000 (for example Freightliner Cascadia Evolution)
150 for tractor, 30 for trailer, video surveillance, Detroit connect, air scale, toolbox...total 200k for one truck.
Let's say driver will have about 100.000 miles per year. Also let's say he will have his own authority for 5% charge (finance, tax and load board). (one person who will do all of that for 5% per truck).
Income
100.000 miles * 2$ per mile = $200,000 (it's a new truck with his own authority)
Expanses (per year)
Fuel = $44,000
driver = $50,000 (0,50 per mile)
5% charge for administration = $10,000
Verizon phone for driver = $1,200
Insurance = $20,000
tolls = $2,000
California LLC = $800
Services = $12,000 (its a new truck so most of this 12,000 goes toward savings).
Miscellaneous = $10,000
Total expanses: $150,000
Total Net income: $50,000
In 4 years he can have ROI.Last edited: Apr 11, 2014
