RC, what are you trying to do? I thought your M.O. was to keep your log book warm while you sit and wait for that evening load that HAS to move when everyone else is out of hours and shutting down for the night?

I'm doing a lot of long haul stuff now with very solid rates. Have looked and booked from loadboards a handful of times this year. The work I'm getting is off the radar not posting up anywhere they just call. Most times it's round trips. Have this one 3PL loading up the truck. Have some excellent similar opportunity from Covenant Solutions side also. The future looks bright. I'm thinking within this year volume at solid rates is not going to be a problem. Might actually turn 100k miles, probably not though lol. I'm adapting and there might be some northeastern states on my cab card at some point. I almost miss I-81 haven't seen it in darn near 4 years. Nah, not really. But money talks and bs walks.
windsmith Thanks this. -
Maybe a brand new truck and co- driver are next......he he.
-
Never a co-driver but definitely a new truck is in the plan. Have a little over 2 years of a 4 year warranty left on the CAT. When that's almost done for i'm selling this truck. I'll sure miss the power but doubtful there will be one in the next ride. Fuel economy will be the focus.

It varies, there is really no set rate from anywhere these days. you can go to nashville, TN where you will have over 1000 loads on that day and brokers will try to pay you less then $2 per mile. I mean come on really?? plus they try to pay that rate back to east or to areas like GA, TX, etc. states that have some freight showing from there but pays barely anything to get out.
and Brokers will act willfully ignorant and act like they selling you best product in the world.
there is no market these days, what this "market" really is right now is the greediness of each broker.
If they feel like paying you 1.2 per mile they will say that is the market, if they feel to pay less or more, they will say that is the market.
but basically when you go to east coast just make sure you charge them like crazy, because not only is there no freight there that pays, you will give like $300 just for tolls alone.
and this part seems to skip "clever" little minds of these brokers. -
Good Persuasion will get you fair $$$ out of Philly.........
Get in with some ocean forwarders......You can get GREAT money out of Tioga or Packers....
I pull a Flat, I get over $2.00 per mile going to Chicago out of Philly..Everyday/All day
Also, If you Have a Van, A hop, skip and jump down to Wilmington,De or Claymont,De you can load Refractories going in different directions for Fair $$$
I personally enjoy the Challenge the eastern seaboard has to Offer...........I can usually load 10-12 per day coming to chicago from baltimore up to York and over inj phillyrollin coal Thanks this. -
Having had to get back in the game and looking for volume out of the area I am finding that many brokers are in denial of what is happening with capacity. And while they aren't moving it as cheap as they used to they still have the advantage of carriers coming into the area that have the rate that will allow them to average out nicely. But shippers are getting burnt with uncovered freight and shopping for reliable coverage and they are seeing the highest rate increases in the country.
We are getting push back from direct customers that we are agreeing to take all their loads with prices in the $1.20 range (plus fuel). Another month or so of a couple loads a week and we will get our rate if not more.
I do love the "it isn't going to last" comments I hear several times a day. They have been saying that every week for months now. When is it going to sink in that tight capacity is going to last for a while.rollin coal, Bigdubber and falcon71 Thank this. -
Bill how long do you think this capacity shortage is going to last?

It can make them more money in the long run, but it can be a costly if something goes wrong.
