I may have an offer coming up with what seems to be a great company. What I'd like to know from some of you is. Besides very hard "Work." What are the ups a downs of this side of trucking? I usually ask around but I don't know anyone in this business to ask.

It will be a 9/10 carhauler. I say 9/10 because I could be in a sleeper or daycab depending on what's available.

Downs: Dealers, out in the weather, carhaul has a very steep and expensive learning curve, did I say dealing with dealers? :)

Ups: it's very lucrative, you will soon be strong as a mule, and you don't have to deal with dockworkers.

never drove, rode only a very, little bit, but the grab and go seemed to be a plus.. no waiting at docks..
(double check ramps are locked and careful who ya let run the levers.. could be costly!)

Here is my take after many years in Carhaul. It is a great industry to be in. But if you are not into hard work, it is not for you. It gets in your blood but you have to give it a chance. I'm not talking about a 3 car pulled by a dually. I'm talking the real deal. The whole dually thing belongs in the hotshot section. I see you have 8 years...excellent, you already know how to operate a class 8 rig. You will need that experience to kick in because the rest of your time is spent learning how to load and unload an auto hauler. When starting out, give it a chance and take your time. When I started on the truck, I wanted to quit every day saying this sucks every night. Then all of a sudden it all "clicked" And that was driving the junk that Anchor Motor Freight had at the time. But I made a ton of dough going all over with that '76 Chevy with a 238 Detroit pulling a '71 Bankhead B-6. It would take 8 hours to cross PA on I-80 with that hunk of #####. But made money doing it. I say do it.

    bamanation Thanks this.
