You'll need a couple of quick connectors, probably 1/4 or 1/8. Also some new airline for the lengthening. You have to remove the shifter knob for the stick, but DO NOT take the knob apart. If you open the knob there are tiny springs and check balls that will pop out and unless you reinstall them properly, well....
The extension rod will screw on to the factory stick, then thread the shift knob on the end. BEFORE pulling the air lines a part, make sure you tag the lines so you don't cross the lines. Now just install the length of new line needed, and use the new connectors to tie it all together.
I installed a 12" extension in my Classic and the height was perfect for my right shoulder which was operated on and always sore. To each his own.
But..... bear in mind, extending or changing any mechanical part could effect the way that part performs........... -
freightliner has a dog leg towards the driver. I took it out and put a straight one in out of a pete for more room when going into the sleeper. Now in my pete I want one the moves it more towards the passenger. Any added weight to the shifter tends to wear more on the bushings and forks.Luwi67 Thanks this.

Never heard this b4. My 359 has a 15 with high gear up by the dash and the short shifter makes it difficult to use the shifter for an arm rest. Are you saying I should not extend for use as an arm rest?
-
Ive used them as a arm rest since I started, drove a 2000 379 with a 6" over a million miles shifted the same since day one. -
I don't understand all the negative posts here. I've thought of extending mine albeit just 6". It would just be more comfortable. Not a priority for me however and I have a thing about keeping things stock too.
I think some people like to post just to feel important. Now if there's a legitimate reason NOT to do something, then say so but don't just condemn someone for doing something just because you don't want to. Some of the bashing here is just totally out of line and immature. -
If the op wants to extend his shifter so it is more comfortable what is the problem.
This is no different in my opinion than adjusting the seat or mirrors.
Now i do not understand why you need the shifter up by the roof or the seat sitting on the floor.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
So tall, his fingers get nosebleeds!
