Ive been seeing a lot of pictures of the "elite fleet" at QC, can anyone who works for them tell me what it like? is the pay that good to be able to afford a truck like that? Ive seen ads saying 165k gross, that seems a little low?

Cbake84, I have worked for Quality Carriers. Please be very careful when picking a Tanker company. I have no idea what the Elite fleet is, if delivering chemicals is elite I guess that's, it. Some drivers make good money at Quality & some do not. If you seen ads for the pay and it seems low to you its probably lower than what is advertised. Do more research about a company's safety, maintenance records. Find out there finances. If you do this now you won't pay later. The knowledge you get is worth money and you have more power to make the right choices. Rig

I have a buddy who works for QC in FT. Worth and he's very happy with that terminal. Be aware that most if not all of the QC terminals are affiliates and independently run. He also says that the terminals in Saint Gabriel, LA and Pasadena TX are worth considering too.
As for this Elite Fleet deal there may well be a special fleet within QC that does crude oil but is differently run and you can tear up your truck real easy. But it's a matter of checking with QC to get the real scoop on that.
I'm leased on with a competitor in chemicals and I'm very happy with the level of freight. But Hazmat is not everyone's cup of tea.
Good luckCbake84 Thanks this. -
I will definately being doing my homework on QC for a while, ive never pulled a bottle so Ill have to make sure its a good decision before i jump into it. Oh, and thanks guys for the info!

I've been with them with for 6 years. In 2012 I did 213k in 2013 194k. Thats on around 110k miles.
I follow the money and have worked for 4 different terminals. I currently work for a terminal in a different state than I live. But still get home every week or so.
At QC it all comes down to terminal. Some terminals have good paying loads other has $1 a mile crap. Some are busy as hell others are dead. I work at terminal till it gets slow then find out what terminal is busy and transfer there.
I'm not sure what elite fleet is. But if its those fancy Peterbuilts it probably the guy from Bristol, WI. He is an owner operator that owns like 11 trucks and has drivers working for him. His trucks are in all the QC pics. -
yeah it is the fancy peterbilts, I appreciate you sharing your year end numbers with me, is it fairly easy to transfer to a different terminal? also im not that familiar with tanker work, Ive pulled flatbed and reefer, I have a friend that always makes tanker work sound good, what are the downsides of tanker?

How much do they charge for trailer use, elogs, etc?
What percentage of your gross to truck would you say is net revenue over a truck trade cycle of 4 - 5 yrs?
Any info on Tampa terminal is appreciated. Thx. -
Rockyroad74,
I worked at the Tampa Terminal. It is an Owner - Operator terminal but there are some company driving jobs. You won't working for The company of Quality Carriers. This terminal is an affiliate for Quality. They have an outbound dispatch and inbound [backhaul] dispatch. That are in the same room but do not talk to each other about the loads they have, terminal manager wasn't there most of the time. The place is a dump and all the trailers are in need of repair. They have tank wash that is ok. The yard is a mud hole most of the time. If you can fit in with the Click that they have and I don't mean the drivers you might do well. The pay per mile was great for me. I didn't have a big truck payment and worked on my own truck, for major work I went some where else. Their shop is no good , don't buy one of their trucks. There are more things to say but I gave you enough to think about. If you need more answers contact me in private msg. -
I've got my own truck and flatbed trailer, but am looking for same or better revenue with no tarps, straps, chains to keep up on and hassle with. These shippers think tarps and all the securement and the labor to apply it is free. Many van operators make the same or more without the securement hassle, and with less deadhead and year around freight volume they can afford to make a little lower rate by putting out more volume in miles and lower deadhead cost and sitting cost.
I've pulled causti tankers before as a company driver, liked the work but the company was cheap and only paid .30/mi and 7.50/hr on ld/unld with a time cap at 45min. I was looking for an all owner op tanker carrier where I can gross to the truck between $250k and $350k. I know the chemical rates are there, it's just a matter of how honest and fair the carrier wants to be with it's contractors.
Sounds lke QC just wants to keep all the money for themselves. Thanks for the inside story. -
The Bristol, WI terminal is also union and yes, even the O/O are union there.Blagoje Thanks this.
