I work for a small company ( the only driver) I will start driving at the end of the month. I have asked for the same pay for deadhead as load miles. He is tell me that it's a small company and most of them doesn't pay anything for deadhead? I think he is will to pay something but not wanting to match the same as loaded ( 35cent). I have only a year exp but I have nothing on my records ( driving, DAT,or CSA) I learn how to drive with one of the big companies and I was getting pay the same for loaded or deadhead. The truck doesn't have APU or Elogs and the company offers no benefits.AM I ASKING TO MUCH?????? WHAT IS FAIR, PLEASE GIVE ME SOME GOOD FEEDBACK AND MAYBE WEBSITES FOR US TO COMPARE????

I very much doubt you will have it matched loaded and MT miles. But most companies will pay around 25-27c mile deadhead if you're being paid 35c mile loaded. It all depends on the company but I wouldn't accept no pay for deadhead. That let's him off the hook and you will be spinning your wheels, working for nothing.
The only thing I would stipulate if he's stuck on no deadhead pay is to insist on no deadhead miles or very little. He can't expect you to work for nothing in that particular situation.
i hope you can reach a compromise.Stinky Dairy Air, allmondman, DocWatson and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ask your employer what the average length is for deadhead miles. One company I drove for, most the dh miles was in the same city I unloaded.Never more then 15 miles. If you don't think you'll be happy driving for this guy then look elsewhere.

If the deadhead isn't more than 25 miles then I don't get paid for it. Anything greater than 25 miles and I get my same cpm. Just see how it works. Most of your miles will be loaded anyway so just roll with it

No benefits? No pay for empty miles? Let me guess, you're probably also paid on a 1099. I'd be looking for a new job yesterday. IMO it's only a matter of time before you get screwed.
ramblingman, EverLuc, Foxcover and 2 others Thank this. -
I will be running out of Georgia, the runs ( four corners) will be to Houston, Chicago, WV, and south to Florida. He is saying that he will try to get the closes loads so I'm not sure. ALSO HE ONLY HAS ONE TRAILER, SO ALL LIVE UNLOADS AND LOADED. HOME WEEKENDS- SUNDAY NIGHT TO FRI NIGHT

There's some good advice here almondman, sometimess you just got to look out for yourself and put your foot down. Don't let others take advantage of you.
allmondman Thanks this. -
I wish he would give me 1099 but he wants to take taxes out?? go figure

I would go to a different company. You can make more elsewhere. Even some megas will pay you almost 40 a mile on all miles.
