Hi tumblin, I too am 59, and even though I've driven trucks for 35 years, I've been out of the loop for about 8 years. I've been thinking of getting back into trucking until retirement, but have been told, companies are skeptical of people that have a gap in their job status, without some sort of refresher course. I almost feel that's a slap in the face, as I've driven 2.5 million miles without an accident or ticket(except stupid overweight) and I have to answer to someone half my age to prove I can drive a truck? Another example, I thought of running a forklift, and some kid asked me if I had my forklift certification. I said nicely,"Look son, I've been running forklifts since before you were born". Didn't matter, without a certification, he couldn't hire me. It's just where we're at now a days, experience doesn't seem to matter near as much as that piece of paper. Best of luck, "semi" retired
Hey ppbr2001, not many people know what a "shiny 290" is. I drove a IH Transtar Cab Over w/ a 300 Cummins and a 13, and I tell you what, it was a dog goin' thru the gears, but for some reason, when you got it in the big hole, that truck would roll down and up!

Course that 600 redhead I'm running now makes most of my previous rides look bad!!
Ha, good grip on the 6 double nuthin'. The last truck I drove had 500 Detroit, 13, 3:55's and I rarely got it in the last gear(truly, the trouble gear) drove along in 12th @70 and never shifted.
Always wondering how this '13 Pete would run with a 5 & 4!!! Of course I'd have to hook a computer to it instead of changing buttons.

Insurance companies run the business, what they say goes. Did trucks 8 years ago even have power steering? lol. 8 years is a a long time bro.
Hi wyld, thanks for the info, that's ok, I don't really want to drive anymore, I put in my time. I had a lot of fun trucking, and I don't think you can have that kind of fun anymore, and I'll leave it at that. To answer your question, yes they did have power steering, but we called it "hydraulically assisted" steering. Truck 'em easy , pal. "semi" retired
