whats the deal (rant)

If there are pedestrians around, I'll tap the city horn, sometimes the air horn; it really depends on the circumstance. But if I am by myself, nah, no horn. And never at a truckstop at night.

 

And on those occasions when it is necessary to knock on their door to ask 'em to move so you can get by, it sizzles my bacon when they get all in a huff and insinuate you're bein' rude by wakin' 'em up, so they purposely drag their feet to take three times longer to git-er-dun than it should.

One such incident rubbed me the wrong way, so -------
After the driver moved and I got by, --- Originally I planned to exit the rest area at that time. But something tempted me to stop again. I parked and sat there awhile, tryin' to figure out what it was that made me want to stop. Then a light bulb appeared above my head. It had been about 30 minutes since the wake-up call to move happened. I exited the Big truck, strolled back over to where the sleepin' giant was parked, checked for any activity, --- none ---- must be asleep again by now, I reasoned. Walked right up to the left door and gave a series of hard, quick bangs on the door, and a couple more on the sleeper, right about where his head would be.

I watched that sleeper start to rock and heard a grumbling voice from inside, still runnin' his mouth as he flung the curtains aside and climbed into the driver's seat, rolled the window down, ------ "WHAT"?!!!!! he grumbled at me, real irritated like. To which I replied, .......
Hi, I'm sorry. I don't know where my manners were a while ago when I asked you to pull up so others could get by your trailer hangin' out.
As I was leavin' I suddenly realized, -------- I plum forgot to say thanks. So, thank you.
And good night.
Then walked away as HIS bacon sizzled.

As for courtesy, --- now-a-daze, what is considered to be " common" courtesy, ain't what it used to be.
What we called common courtesy back in the day is now UN-common courtesy.

your joking right? if your blocking my way out, then waking you up is the very least of my problems.

 

I had a piece of garbage driver block me and 15 other trucks at a pilot once. its 2am I just get out of the shower and head to my truck and I say hi to a guy walking and he blows me off. I was like, what a d o u c h e.lol get to my truck to see someone parked in the aisle blocking every truck on both sides if they needed to leave. i knocked on truck, nothing. I sit there 10 minutes, nothing. i go inside they message over intercom, nothing. I call the company on his truck and they try to call driver but no one answers! I call police and they come but he cant do anything cuz its private property so the police man goes inside and talks over the intercom, NOTHING! so the policeman asked the pilot manager to call tow truck. about an hour has passed now and the wrecker shows up. he slim jims the door and goes in the truck, nothing. starts hooking up to truck and HOLY COW the driver appears. its the same guy that looked at me funny and blew me off when i said hi. he was in the shower and claimed he didnt hear any intercom messages or his phone and didnt think anybody needed to leave at 2am. tow wrecker driver gave him a bill for $325 that he didn't have. the police man yelled at him pretty good while i was laughing and gave him what i thought as well before the cop told me to settle down. he had to call his company for a cash advance to pay for the tow truck man. what a way to start the day, 1.5 hours behind from the get go. GOOD TIMES...............

It does seem that a lot of the rest areas in the northeast were designed with shorter trucks in mind. With the normal trailer being 53 feet long, odds are you are going to be too long for the spots. In order to safely get out, you might have to jump a curb or ask a driver to move forward/backwards. It is even worse if you are driving a long nose truck. It would be prudent to check to see if you are blocking the roadway, but I do not see many people doing it.

 

The Flying J in Denver is a prime example of this almost every morning, but especially on the weekends. I was stuck there for 2 days after my delivery got canceled and rescheduled for the following monday. there is no parking along the outer edges. There are 2 lanes facing outward with 2 lanes in the center facing each other. The 2 center ones are fine IF the jackwagon behind you actually looks at where his trailer is. Usually there are several overhanging, which forces you forward, which makes it really difficult to back in or get out. But the 2 outside lanes are really nice. There are red no parking lines painted infront of the curbs and plenty of signs that say, you guessed it, NO PARKING. By 9 pm the south side of the lot wil have trucks double parked along the side and triple parked by the entrance. The north side will have a single line against the curb. You can't get out of either one if there is a truck there.
When I was there, there were 5 drivers stuck for over 3 hours because a driver parked his truck there and then went home. Flying J employees there have been assaulted and threatened so they have a policy of not enforcing it. They won't even call a tow truck. Police wont do anything because it's on private property. So 3 hours later, around 10am, a call pulls up and a few of us get ready to go give this jerk a piece of our minds. He gets out of the car and We all see the size of his arms and every single one of us turned around and started talking about the weather or whistling LOL! He hopped in his truck and parked it somewhere legal and then left again.

I will never understand the "##" mentality that is so prevalent out here. Alot of times these trucks are also parked offset so they take up 2 spots. Or they just park anywhere, with no regard to the truck traffic flow through the rest area or truckstop. I was a the Pilot/flying J in Lebanon and woke up at 5am to start my run and you had to go out through the CAT scale because the driveway was completely blocked
