    THE BACK STORY:
Im currently a company driver but Im looking to become an owner operator soon. Ready for the problem? Ok. I just got out of court and my ex wife walked away with about a little over a third of my salary. She's on welfare but the court doesn't count that as an income(wtf?) so its as if she's making nothing when she really is. I live in California and I see why other states talk so much #### about us. Way too liberal. I have my kids on the weekends and I don't mind giving my ex money for my children but......when i become an owner operator I don't want to be forced to give her 50,000-70,000 a year while she sits on her ### and does nothing.

    THE QUESTION:
Is there anyway to keep your ex wife out of your business and child support payments low while being an owner op? I've heard of guys putting their company in someone else's name and giving themselves a really low paycheck. I can see how this could work but I wouldn't want it to come back and bite me in the ###.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!!

Not Really...Just be Honest, Next,Try your DAMNDEST to get back with your EX..Im Not a Counselor, But Families NEED to be together,

Just look around and see what single parenting is putting out..Kids with NO respect

Secondly, They will probably go by your Net income,(After your operating costs)..Then you pay whatever % to Support, Child Support Sucks, They will always side to the Mother (Unless she Does drugs and lives like a Pig)...

    Try and work Things out.........

A friend of mine is dealing with this same issue, what the court has done in his case is base the child support off of what his net income is. She gets XX% of what ever he clears. What he does is spends as much money on his business as he can, which keeps his net very low. Now, he is not a dead beat dad that doesn't care about his kids, he makes sure that they have everything they will ever need. His new wife makes more money than he does, so he can afford to spend more than most people could.

But I would caution you on getting your own truck, these things can and will eat money like its nothing. You just need to make sure that you are prepared to handle paying her, paying a truck payment, and any maintenance on the truck. There have been a lot of guys that lost everything in a situation like this, it could very well turn into the perfect storm and leave you out in the cold.

Can only post one "thanks" but I would a thousand times if I could. BTW how do you figure she can get $50-70k as a third of your income? If you think you will net $150-210k as an O/O you are in for a bigger problem than child support.

Problem is i know plenty of women who dont spend that money on the kids they use it for cigarettes, beer, going to the bars, etc now being an o/o its actually easier then being a company driver make sure when you do your taxes at the end of the year have have enough deductions to keep your net low spend money on your business without spending money on your business remember in life its not what you know its who you know for example a friend who owns a business who could hook you up if you catch my drift.

Look, Im not trying to short my kids. I pay my child support like im supposed to and I take care of them when I have them. Every time I see her she has on new clothes but my kids have holes in their shoes and holes in their jeans. Every time I get them like that I'll go out and buy them some new clothes. NO. I don't make them strip down before I give them back, I let her keep their new clothes. Maybe you like to have women living off of you but I don't. She needs to get her ### off the ####### couch and get a job. Have you ever been through a divorce? Have you ever had a woman try to destroy just because she was mad at you? If you've never been in that situation then thats a good thing but I can see how you wouldn't really understand what Im facing.

I love my kids and I would die for them. I don't have a problem giving my ex money but she needs to get a job. She has sat on her ### for a year. What kind of message does that send to my children? You think its ok to be on welfare? You must. I was just in court today and there was another business owner in there. They went off what he grossed, not what he netted. Over 130,000 last year.
