If you go into the dealer before break time and offer to buy a round of coffee for the boys, they will probably change your idle shut down for free.

Good luck, I had a newer International tow truck when I lived in New Mexico and went to the dealer for some work, they reflashed the ecm then couldn't turn off the idle shut down (found out it would shut down in the middle of clearing a wreck on I-40) without International corporate approval. The truck came new with idle shutdown off so I could idle it while using the pto but the longest timeout the dealer can program for now is 2 hours to remain CARB compliant. It took about a week to get International corporate to send Robert's Truck Center in Albuquerque the override program for my ecm and I was told if the ecm needed work again I would have to do this all over again. Also, if the dealer does turn off the idle shut down they remove your California sticker since the truck is no long CARB compliant. At least that is what Roberts told us when we were fighting with them over this and I suspect they were being straight with us since we were their towing vendor and owned several Internationals with mine being the newest in our fleet and the only one with a MaxxForce engine.
DE36535 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info, Brian. Fortunately, I'm in no hurry to go into Cali, si I'll trade that sticker for idling in Laredo on my 10.

I had that problem with a Volvo. I was told to wait for the shutdown message to pop up and when it did, hit the resume on the cruise control so I did and it popped up Shutdown Cancelled. It kept running then. May not work on an International though?DE36535 Thanks this.

Just tried it and it didn't work. Good tip, though. I'll just have to make do until I can get it by a dealership. But it never hurts to ask here, so thanks to everyone for all the input.

You're welcome. Sorry it didn't work. That Volvo only did it that one time. I took it to the shop and they put the computer on it and did whatever they did and never had another problem with it.

LOL may be something in the air there in New Mexico? That's where that Volvo did that. Something else I noticed too. Every time Id go into New Mexico, my fuel filter light would flash on every now and then while I was there. Once I got back to Tx it would quit.

With all the government land there, it's quite obviously either a conspiracy or the result of some super secret experiments.
