Every now and then I'll do a two stopper but that's the Max, like you said, too many variables once you start going up in stops

Landstar is a good company if you can work without being told what to do! YOU must contact agents to secure your freight to haul, this means making relationships with these agents! Only about 1 in 10 truck owners who apply to Landstar get hired because their requirements are so strict. This however, means a better pool of drivers which in turn helps create better CSA scores and safety rankings for the company.

Landstar is as close as you can get to having your own authority, without having it! It is up to you to succeed or fail here, the trick is to do something that separates yourself from everyone else. You must find a niche that few others do and the agents to support that niche. If you are planning on coming here and pulling a company van and hauling general freight you will find it very tough to succeed because there are thousands of trucks here doing the same thing and those folks already have established themselves with the agents with the best freight.

I know this is an old thread, but this is not so. The qualcoms used by Landstar will not work, but qualcom has one that you can buy that will work on a mechical engine. It can be bought through Landstar.

No lease purchase trucks at Landstar! You must come with your own truck to lease on. You could go with a truck from Lone Mountain, lease it and sign it on. Landstar has very strict hiring requirements and you must have at least 2 years over the road experience.

It is only one year experience in the last 3 years per http://www.leasetolandstar.com/FAQ

No guarantee that you will get accepted with only a year experience but there have been posts on here from people who have been.

Does either one of you O/O for LS know anything about if they have driver unload freight that pays well? I've heard numerous drivers complain about unloading freight. Company drivers & O/O... But myself, being a former football player, I actually like the idea of getting paid to workout. I enjoy driver unloads with my current company. I recently heard how much they pay an O/O and I am interested in making this lane, my niche. To any O/O of LS who can enlighten me on this question, I would really appreciate it. (Ex. Anna's Linen account out of Charlotte).

Yeah some agents have that type freight like anna's linens.......I know anna's linens pays good......in my experience most do pay well if you have to unload it but, there are very few loads where its loaded on the floor like anna linens and you have to unload.

my wife and I do cabinet loads often .... some of them pay well and you unload at each stop
If you are willing to do that at LS you should get some good loads :)
I have also done ice cream cones
    lots of tire unloads
    and nursery loads
