I know a guy that was given $50.00, a cheap set of clothes and a bus ticket from a famous town in Kansas to his place of conviction. Had $20.00 when he arrived and used most for a Chauffeur license(now called a CDL). Then he walked around a small town and saw a small trucking company. Walked in and was hired for OTR on the spot without even a road test. Almost never got the truck moving; it kept bucking and jumping; finally got moving and the start of a career. He did pretty good after not driving for over 20 years, almost 25.
How broke were you when you entered the trucking business ?

Sad thing is, that doing that in today's world would be pretty near to impossible. Everybody has to "check" on everything, per government regulations.
GabeScott Thanks this. -
I made quite a bit more money in my former career than I do now.. But I am wealthier now if you know what I mean. Money is important but never put it first.
Good luck to you.GabeScott, Lux Prometheus, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank you sir, but I do intend to make this a career. I used to daydream about hopping from town to town across this great nation and always scratched my head when it came to coming up with the money for such an adventure. Panhandling just seemed like it would suck all the fun right out of the idea. Then one day it hit me...I could be a little slow.... Anyways that did not go through apparently 2 seatbelt tickets is a big deal to these major carriers (plus a dui and neg driving, but they are both over 7 years old and the dui is 9 1/2). Time to find a small company, or anyone to give me a chance. Getting a lot of closed doors here. Aint giving up that easy. I didn't come this far for nothing.
