What State was this in???? Big difference between Cali-Florida/Nebraska-Iowa....

200 miles in 4 hours is a push... 15 mins to the freeway-15 mins off the freeway... All of a sudden you gave him 3.5 hours to do 200 miles....

Why would you ever schedule something like that??? No room for error on anybody's part.... You basically set everybody up to fail on this one

    ColumbiaBob,

Trust and know that I have certainly taken a look in the mirror and have started with myself. Hence the reference to making sure I don't schedule appointments too close to each other and expecting unrealistic positive outcomes. Now to address looking at the shippers and receivers...Yes, all of us deal with Shippers and Receivers who take ungodly amounts of time to unload their own freight. Even Brokers who fail to schedule appointments properly and cause significant delays. But that is not the issue here. The issue is one or more drivers who from time to time miss scheduled appointments and the question is what are some of the ideas the rest of you are using to deal with this???

I am not putting a limit on drivers and what in the world does ELD's have to do with someone doing their job and being on time. Last time I checked the paychecks were ALWAYS on-time and never late. They expect that. So why should I not expect for freight to get to its destination under reasonable circumstances?

Very doable but it depends when you make the appointment, before or after loaded? Was it made before hand and the shipper took 2 hours to load? That happens all the time. I wouldn't just take mileage and divide by a number as you'll screw up every time.

You have to consider load time, the driver might need to fuel, or even traffic. Some might think he should fuel ahead of time? What if he is in a high priced area and waiting until the next state might mean a substantial savings. There are so many variables I wouldn't cram delivery times tight. What looks good on paper isn't always so perfect in the real world. Talk with the driver and ask him an ETA if you can.

Then you have to consider the driver. Who are you hiring? You have to develop a relationship and find the good from the bad ones. Keep some kind of record like a spreadsheet on them.

There are so many variables out here that you haven't mentioned.... 44k in the box goes to the scale... 10 minutes in line getting scale ticket... Needs to adjust... Back to scale ... Back in line... YADA YADA YADA..... 45 minutes out the window.... No fault of anybody.....

    PhoenixLogistics.........

    You want straight ,honest answers?

Its all about the 'bottom' line.

Yes, The Service you get shall depend on the Rate you provide these carriers...

Now,If your Paying Fair Rates, You 3pl's need to start knocking on the Door of 'OTHERS" in the Industry outside of the easiest person to point a finger at....'The Driver'....

were about tired of it, Start Calling your Slow Customers whom take 3-8 hours to Load and unload.....

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know what coming next.."If you dont like the rate,Dont take the Freight"...(Oldest Adage known to man)

when everything is all said and done,And its Closing time.....it all comes down to $$$

$$$ DICTATES the Level of service......

For those inquiring, First stop this morning was at 5:30 a.m. Driver was unloaded within an hours time. The second appointment was pre-scheduled for 11:30 a.m. So the driver was free at 6:30 a.m., the four hours I was referencing was from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

There was ample time to get there on-time. Even in Real World circumstances.

Also for the previous questions, drivers are paid per-diem based upon government rates. They're well taken care. Every company is not out to take advantage of it's employees. Some of us still care about the individuals that work for us and try to provide the best possible working environment.
