I have also began to not except loads with multiple stops because there always seems to be a problem. And problems ruin relationships, this industry is all about relationships with Shippers/Brokers etc.

I have two drivers that I trained pulling wind blades for the first time. Both have to play by the same rules. Driver One gets loaded on a Monday afternoon, gets out and goes down the road. Driver two gets loaded Tuesday morning and catches Driver One late Tuesday afternoon. Sunrise is at 0640. Driver Two leaves out at 0625. Driver One leaves out at 0700. Driver Two clears a major metro curfew area in plenty of time and shuts down 60 miles from his destination. Driver One gets caught at the curfew area and has to shut down 300 miles from the destination.

Driver One accuses Driver Two of speeding. What do you think the problem is?

Think of it in football terms. You said that 4 drivers were late. Someone questioned whether or not they had ample time to make delivery. Well, you said that 4 of your drivers were late, not all of your drivers were late...so apparently, you are not being unreasonable. So what's the problem? If you have players on your team that keep dropping the ball, but some of your players never drop the ball, what do you do as team owner? Go scouting, hire a new player and watch and see if the new player can hold on to the ball. If he can, remove Butterfingers from starting to second string, and give second string Doofus his walking papers.

Give your first string driver the best truck, the best runs, the important loads, and give Butterfingers what's left. Fire Doofus. Then try to find a solid replacement for Butterfingers.

Everybody can make mistakes Tuck, I truly don't believe in firing someone because they've made me look bad. What about all the other times they made me look good? I just want to find a way to make them cognizant of the effects of being late and missing appointments. High turnover will cost me as much as missed appointments. I want to keep my staff an make them strive to do their best at all times.

Clearly understood Six! I won't keep many Doofus' on my squad. However, Butterfingers will have to Tighten Up!

I think drivers are considered late after an hr.This driver was late 2 hrs.He should have called his boss the second he knew he wouldn't be there ontime.

When I am late the customer takes their sweet precious time to unload and it's no detention. I have never been late other than trailer failure.

Wonder, from the start point even with traffic he SHOULD or may I should say could have been in/near/around Baltimore by 10:00 a.m. Wouldn't traffic have eased by that point?

Calling dispatch with ETA isn't what is being discussed here.....

How to help a driver successfully deliver a LTL load is the topic....
