What is the Max speed limit you can go over on an interstate?

My truck is governed at 70. 5 mph gets me a speed warning on the qualcomm. More than 2 speed warnings in a certain time frame earns me a sit down with safety. Generaly about with in 3mph of the speed limit is OK. Except in Indiana.

 

What makes you think I'm wrong. Speed limit was not mentioned, just governed speed and that is agreed with by a Canadian drive. Also 100 kph is 62.5 mph, so what.

 

I'm curious how many of you who admit to speeding will get tickets after jinxing yourselves in this thread. Haha

 

Being the son of a retired CHP officer, I can tell you that anything over 5 mph is absolutely fair game. If they feel like it even 1mph over the legal speed is probable cause for a stop and if you get mouthy about it they'll level 1 you in a heart beat.

 

go 10 over in Michigan and they will probably give u the e-chair, drove on I-94 today and seen 4 trucks pulled over, they gave a ticket to one of my companies drivers for going 3 over (200.00)

I can't stand having a governed truck. I have been governed at 64 mph since 2004. I think they are dangerous! I think if they are going to be governed it should be at least 78 mph if you are OTR. No reason you shouldn't be able to do the speed limit across I-80, TX, AZ and NM. I also don't like it because of a steer tire blow out. If you are already maxed out on speed and your steer tire blows you can't accelerate to bring the truck back under control before stopping. So really if you want to be super anal safe you have to drive slower than your governed speed.

 

You made a great point about the steering tire blow-out....136 posts on this thread and only a few agree that speeding isn't the devil's surrogate. It will get you into trouble alright , but everybody has been guilty of it.

 

I'm not saying I don't ever speed. I'm just saying there is no real benefit to speeding like a mad man in an 80000 pound killing machine. I get not governing the rigs at 64 but unfortunately there are too many people that can't control themselves if they have the chance to speed. So the ruined it for the professionals.

 

I get your point there....but riddle me this...are you any more dead by a truck that hits you going 64 mph or more dead after a truck going 74 mph hits you.....Speed kills...that's a fact. But we all have to make the conscious choice of when speeding is safer than not speeding. Reading road/traffic/weather conditions...plus our own abilities to control the vehicle we are driving and adjusting the speed at which you choose to drive is called being a professional driver....anybody can drive a semi (for the most part) it ain't hard to do....but it takes a certain mindset/attitude to do it safely and professionally....your correct....a few have ruined it for the many.
