I am aware of the fuel crisis and the massive price gouging. I would propose that we target individual oil companies for boycott. I would ask that this be done with a nation wide effort.

The first item of business should be to identify all fill up stations by brands, Such as Exxon Mobile or Phillips Conoco along with others and set up a system of boycott for one specific brand that we could all agree on. and then move on the following month to boycott the next brand if need be.

The next item of business is to come up with a mutual outline of what brand to start the boycott. If it is agreed that we for example boycott any station selling Exxon Mobile once ALL of the Exxon Mobile stations have been identified, then it is imperitive that we all MUTUALLY remain locked in on the same brand during the whole duration of the boycott.

The next item of business would be to determine the propper length of the brand specific boycott. If ALL who drove trucks were to unite and decide to boycott Exxon Mobile or another brand of liquid gold, then we should look at doing this for a period of one month or more and move on to the next brand if need be. The simple facts are that a few days or a week is not going to do anything. If this is going to work, it has to be prolonged, and during the prolonged effort, we shall not loose vision of what we are trying to accomplish. The reasons for this is the fact that all those leaches can learn by is by where their money is and why it went away and it is high time we hit them where it counts. In their fat pocket book. This is where "staying the course" will pay off for everyone.

If other companies (brands) are not brought to heel during this time then they can be marked for the next months boycott.

With this concept, No one is in danger of losing his or her job or having their personal safety put at risk. I want to see all of you get your loads delivered safely without having to sacrifice a paycheck or your personal safety or other ramifications. The beauty of this is that we can still choose where we shop and who ever else we buy from. That is why this should work.

I am open to suggestions on how we can put the word out to most of the truckers. Once we do successfully get the word out, we can then set an effective date to start the boycott and start the spanking of the oil companies. I must stress again that this is a brand specific boycotting system and it will allow us to shop at the boycotted brands competitors so this should not slow anyone down on their routes..

That is a an exellant idea. Smack the oil companies in the chops one at a time, and we can still feed our families.

If anyone can come up with any ideas on how to pass this onto an overwelming majority of truckers, please let me know so we can get this thing off the ground. I will look back into this post for replies.

In theory, a good idea, but not feasible. Suppose you choose to boycott Exxon supplied stations, the competitors would see a massive increase in their volume, and once their supply is bought up, where do you suppose they will look for more supply?

    Exxon of course.

Not that it would ever get to that point, because once Exxon figured out what was going on, they would lower their price enough to make going elsewhere uneconomical for penny pinching O/O's.

And finally, I'm sure Exxon supplied fuel retailers have national accounts with the larger trucking companies. Who aren't going to give up their discount to help you out.

there has been a lot of ideas thrown out there in the past going back to OOIDA,s say no to cheap freight, and run compliant boycott the oil companies as you suggest all of them at one time would have worked if just decent percentage of trucks honored them. The problem is that not enough people got together and did it so now we are to the point that the only think that will work is a shutdown and as last week showed a few can make a difference and i know that as we speak the organizing of the small groups that started the shutdown is happening and a plan of action with everyone on the same page is being accomplished, its getting inevitable that a shutdown will occur as the price of fuel rises and more companies become distressed .I still think that the sooner the better that it occurs the less pain and suffering there will be for all concerned

Points well taken. I can honestly see the o/o drivers doing a mass shutdown, but do you think that the company drivers would be willing to follow suit? If we did get everyone to participate, then it would have to go for at least two weeks of everyone parking it for this to work. Any ideas on how we can get company drivers to cooperate?

Okay, say for some reason, we get all the O/O's to cooperate with boycotting specific brands. I lease my truck onto a company, we have a specific network we fuel through and get a half-###'ed discount. Now we no longer have that fuel network because we boycotted it. Where is the benefit now since we will be paying much more for our fuel? No, I do not think the boycott of any ONE brand will work. If we really want to make an impression, we have to just shut all the O/O's down and as many company trucks also that would join us (even though they know they will be fired). There are a lot of us O/O's who figured out that although we may not be making the biggest money we could by going out and getting our own loads, at least our employment is a bit more steady by leasing our trucks on with a company that will get our loads for us and having a more steady running invironment (in other words, we may not sit as long without a load). I also don't have MEGA Truck Payments or a mortgage either which puts me in a minority among O/O's, many of which have $2000 or higher truck payments and also have high mortgage payments. So, if someone can get everyone on the same page for EVERYONE to shut down at the same time, heck, let's do it. WE HAVE REAL POWER!!! BUT, and that is a really big BUT, if we don't stand together, we have no power at all. So, Can someone figure a way to make this happen? I haven't a clue about how to do this, but I am sure someone can figure a ralistic way.
