The forum is many things to many people. For some its serious job research. For others its entertainment to kill time alone in a truck. Just go with the flow. I don't think the guy who offended you intended to. Why make an enemy. He might be the one who can help you the most being from the same state you are..

You can enter Canada with a DUI. One would need to apply for a waver of exclusion through the embassy. Its just another money making racket. I know a few guys with some colorful backgrounds who have been OK'd to go up there.DustyRoad, SwizZz and briarhopper Thank this.

I do like your enthusiasm! But, and this is reality, the guys who pay top dollar are very strict about who they hire, They want experience! Coming into the trucking business from retail requires building a good track record, which begins day one when you accept any position as a driver. Everything you do will become permanently recorded on a DOT database, including all jobs, when and where and how often you switched, accidents, and violations are stored for three years. There are several ways to make good money, but the "Top Dollars" really go to Private Fleet Owners operating under their own Authority. Heavy Haul, Expedited and Temp Control still rank up at the top of the heap. Cheap freight is left to the Mega carriers who have huge resources and liquidity. Some guys are happy with being a company driver, others as lease op and others prefer to be actual Business Owners who make the big bucks.
One truck can generate about 250K depending on what it pulls! This is the land of opportunity, why settle for being a driver when one day in 5 years you could own 5 trucks or 50 trucks. All it requires is enthusiasm and motivation and some credibility.
I have a friend who started Southern Refrigerated with 5 trucks 25 years ago, today his fleet is tipping 1000 power units and 1700 trailers, go figure, hillbilly from AR with all that money!

You are hearing a lot of good things here. I just go approval for $250,000 from the bank to start my own 1 truck company. I was on track to make $114,000 this year with a company but things happen. That is pulling a dry van out three weeks and home two days. Total control over what loads I would take and where I would run. The next logical step is Owner Operator and I should have my authority in 45 days or so. I expect to pay the $250,000 off in two years. In five years, I expect to have 10 trucks. In 20 years, I expect to be King of the World. Provided the ship doesn't hit any icebergs.

Yes, that is a viable option for those willing to jump through the hoops. Thanks for adding that to the thread.

The majority of the trucking jobs out there are delivering to retail and the jobs can be worse than the retail job itself. Pay can be so low that the driver rather than the retail worker will unload the freight. So consider what you are getting into.
As a subcontractor for retail, many of the trucking companies are more picky about employee history than retail is.
