My wife and I are a beginning team. We have friends who are husband and wife teams. Most of them started out as a team. When they trained as a team, the company wanted a capable team. They started out thinking they would always be a team. This lead to one of them learning one thing and the other another so the duties were divided. Sometimes this did not work out. For health reasons or some reason, one would have to drive solo for awhile to pay the bills until the other one could drive team with them again. Where they had learned to work together as a team only, this created big problems. From seeing the possible problems wiht this, my wife and I both train to drive solo and then will drive as a team. But we do not want only one doing the trip planning, backing, night driving, whatever just in case. Learning from my friends experience. One of which trained his wife and told her, you will never have to do this cause I will be there. Now he is home until he will be able ot take his DOT physical again. And she is getting trainee pay again after 2 years as she learns what she needed to learn the first time.

Well that makes perfect sense. We have friends who team. Roger fell getting out of his truck and broke 4 ribs and is down for over a month and his wife was forced to solo. Its a good thing for both of you to be fully capable to do everything.

BUT, there are many wives who would not want to solo without her husband. My wife is an example of this and I know many others who feel the same way. We both love our job, however my wife has made it very clear that she would not drive solo if I could not drive for some reason.

You are not alone in that. My spouse feels the same way. If I am not on the truck she wont go out solo. She only learned to drive to be with me and help make more money, otherwise she wants no part of the job.
It is sweet but if anything does happen to me she would be a basket case trying to do this on her own. Oh well I love having her with me and her companionship alone is enough to keep me happy wether she does 6 hours of driving or none at all (thats about the most she can handle in a day).

Werner eventually let my husband train me; but he had 7 years previous driving expierence, and 2 years with a training school... so that may be the exception to the rule.
