I was in Ireland in 2002 and they charged 5 cents for each plastic bag. They seemed to deal with it ok and I'm sure we will to. This is something that will be expanding here in the USA. LA, California is doing it now too, I hear.
Don't know how this effects truckingChinatown Thanks this. -
Many overseas countries use bar codes on plastic bags and scan and charge for using them. I usually carry my own cloth grocery bags.ncmickey Thanks this.

Many of the larger stores around the Twin Cities take a nickel off your purchase if you don't take a bag.
-
OK.Hopefully I can learn(?) something today. What is this fuss over plastic bags?
-
Litter, they take very long to break down. When dumped in the ocean, like many large cities on the coast do, sea turtles think they are jellyfish and choke on them. It's a green thing.

Yep, they tried it up here, went over like a lead balloon, if you think after I spend 5,10,15 or 20 bucks at your store that I'm going to pay an additional charge for a bag to carry that stuff out to my truck?? Apparently a lot of other people thought the same way, it died out after a year or so, I'm taxed to death already so don't expect me to blindly fork over any additional cash because your store has decided it's got a conscience. Sorry don't mean to sound rude but like I said I'm taxed enough already.
Iwegian Thanks this. -
Dolphins too, ride down any roadway, and you see a few hung up in the trees. They blow out of pickups, car windows etc. They take forever to breakdown, making them creates pollution, the reasons are numerous and valid.
My wife and I try to use the reusable canvas ones and make sure to recycle the ones we do get. But as a carpenter in my former career, I have let many home depot bags that had caulk or screws etc ... blow out of my pick up unintentionally....Bayle Thanks this. -
I had two "Old Maid" aunts. They were born in the 1888 and 1893. Growing up they raised us as their house was next to the grade school I attended. They had a large garden behind the house and raised most of their food. Canning stuff and putting it away for the winter. They saved aluminum foil and steel cans. Recycling stuff all their lives. They took in laundry for others and washed and ironed everything. They always took paper bags with them to the store and folded them up when they got back home. They never made much money but lived well and always shared. Looking back at those times, those too old ladies were way ahead of their time.
Sometimes, I think I am just to lazy to do what is best for the environment. Banning plastic is something that is probably a good thing. My problem is that it is the Government that is doing it.gpsman Thanks this. -
Just today one of my kids told me I'm just a sarcastic and cynical old ####### AND..He said I ain't Cool er Kewl anymore? Can you believe that?? Anyway banning plastic is to saving the World as is the Dutch boy with his finger in the leaking dyke. You know...Maybe Rusty (my boy) was right.
