I honestly and Truly Believe that Electronics,Technology,Mixed with mega's and Non-megas putting warm bodies in these trucks..(People that Really dont want to drive a truck)..
Are the Reasons for so Much Catastrophe Today
Ebola is 100% Correct........Stupidity and non-accountability were few and far between..........
Nowadays, Its "Congress,ATA, Mega-shippers all Begging' For Drivers to be put in trucks to Get volume moved with little thought on consequences"
And Thats a Cold hard Fact Extremists and transportation analysts Dont want This Industry to understand
Get this industry Back Right...Whats right??
1.SLOW down inventories.....2..Put Only Truck Drivers in Trucks..Not "Well.,Ill try this and see what happens" Kind of People, You either have it in your heart and Sweat Blood..Or You dont
3. Carriers and ONLY carriers Dictate freight Rates..... That means Shippers,Brokers,3pl's, Filthy rich executives that think they can call the transportation shots because they are a fortune 500 company, Freight Forwrders,Ocean Forwrders.Etc etc etc, WAIT Until We (The Carrier) give you the Green Light on any freight movement.
4.Stand Up........Yes,That means all you yellow Belly Drivers out there that just 'Go with the flow'........Need to start putting your foot down and say "NO" -

Yes it was Old Route 15. Where oh where did you find a map that listed Rt 2005? -
Nope not oil field stuff. I was 12' wide and they decided to route me off 15 for 18 miles onto this Rt 2005 that doesn't appear on any map that I have seen. No idea why.

I was looking for an emoticon to let us know you were writing this tongue in cheek. In case you were writing this sincerely believing it to be true:
I drove "back in the day", well before GPS, and I'm not sure what planet you drove on, but I'd say any search of news stories from the '60's through the '80's would let you know pretty quick that bridge strikes have been a problem ever since they started increasing the allowed height of trucks (let alone over dimension loads).
Getting lost or in a pickle was a common occurrence for anyone driving OTR or unfamiliar routes. Getting directions from a shipper that didn't have a clue about truck restrictions happened often enough you learned to take that with a grain of salt.
Buying local maps at the first available gas station was a must, and a well organized file system so you didn't have to buy that map again was essential. We had ours catalogued by state in two "banker's boxes".Buckeye91 Thanks this. -
######! I forgot to put "The above was sarcastic, of course". My apologies, for it was a long day and I neglected to amend my post when I shut down.
I was merely pointing out that the drivers of today are no different than the drivers of yore. They still hit things, get lost, and make the older drivers shake their heads.
The above was NOT sarcastic.Last edited: May 3, 2014

Your point is duly noted and I agree, Ebola Guy. Not much difference today, we just have higher tech toys to get us lost.
Tonythetruckerdude and Ebola Guy Thank this. -
You mean like US-129 in NC and TN?

In my experience, those things have a tendency to run you into either the 10 foot bridge or the 10 ton bridge. -
Not to mention, years ago, the road atlas made a great "seed" cleaner
Oh, relax, that was 30 years ago!
Sounds like my old Union 76 Atlas LOL........"semi" retired Thanks this. -
