I don't understand this, if you OWN the truck, why are you calling into breakdown to get it cleared? If something breaks on my truck, I get it fixed, the only person at the company that I am leased to that might know anything about it would be my dispatcher. And I would only say something to him IF the repair would cause a delay in my delivering on time to a customer.
seriously?

I guess I missed it too. Had a brake chamber leak. There was a Pete dealer 2 blocks away. Told some drivers that I was running with that I was going to buy a brake chamber and install it and they suddenly look alarmed. One guy told me about how dangerous the spring was in the chamber and the other told me about the liabilities with fooling with air brakes. Two airlines, two nuts holding it to the bracket, and a cotter pin connecting the slack adjuster. $57 later it's a done deal and my vir gets a clean bill of health.SL3406, Joetro, passingthru69 and 2 others Thank this. -
lol..I Know... My reply would be "and you guys are telling me this why?" As If they are your Father or legal guardian..
I Tell Ya some of these Drivers..... are Something else -
It's only when you try to take the chamber apart that the spring can bite you. Doesn't anyone know how these things work any more? And, does anyone actually replace just the diaphragms? Seems a whole lot cheaper (quicker, time is money, etc) to just replace the whole thing.
Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
Just be aware a carrier must certify anyone working on any portion of the brake system can do so. (49 cfr 396.25). Any other system does not require certifcation with the exception of a person doing an annual inspection.

No I don't. Can anyone prove that pointing to a regulation? The way I see it you're on duty. But like I said I don't log every wrench job I do to the truck. Why split hairs over this it's not like you drive 4,000 miles a week solo and could use the hours, right? I do a pm every 5 or 6 weeks, maybe longer than that. Do it however you want. I'll keep doing it my way.

You have a link to prove this statement?
Or is it just an opinion.
Ask the next DOT inspector and try to convince them.
Per fmcsa rules 395.2 (2)

Replacing the diaphram is Faster...(Barring the rest of the Chamber is Solid)......Quicker to remove the Clamp rather than those 2 mounting Bolts which can be a Pain without impact tools
Chambers Go Bad..always have always will.....Try to Buy the ones made in america(They have a Little american Flag Decal on them) They seem to be a little More durable
Road Equipment In Gary..(A Place where i Buy 90% of My Parts) Is selling these New Chambers 30/30 Long or short strokers, with a 7 Year Warranty on Them for $75 Bucks!!
Thats Right 7 year warranty from clevis to Mounting Bolt. They are Painted Black...
Im Thinking about Trying Them Out Next Time -
Under my own authority, I must maintain a maintenance log. Don't they need the same since I am under theirs?
