I've been driving for about 3 years and last year was bad. Got a ticket for overweight on a sealed UPS load I wasn't allowed to scale, got 3 speeding tickets trying to make impossible drops and pickups, and got a Failure to Maintain Control in MN when an SUV cut me off while I was trying to merge in a construction zone. Tried to get legal help but all I found were shysters. On top of this I was fighting truck breakdowns where I had to stay awake during sleep time to get truck fixed so a lot of the time I was running on no sleep and sick, fighting CPAP issues, and fighting with Safety over Peoplenet issues that screwed up my drive and rest times. Now they have me in a tiny Volvo (which I loathe) I can barely move in (6' 3", 300#) which is causing me stress problems so I have to take Prozac, blood pressure meds, and prostrate meds. Through all of this the comapny just said tough ####, too bad. I did take a driver class in IA and am on a years probation (no tickets or anything). I haven't quit because I'm not a quitter and the pay and miles are tolerable. Until I got with this company I had a clean record. Do I have any options other than trying to ride this out for a few years and hope I don't have a heart attack or go insane?

Oh so UPS won't even give you an indication of what the load weighs?? That's a red flag right there . Excuse me but that's BS. But I'm sure the guys here will take note. A sealed load with no idea of what it weighs and you can't scale it. Oh come on now. Don't give me that. How do you mean you aren't allowed to scale it? Where's there a law that says you can't ?
If there's an inkling a load is over, I refuse the load.....simple. Don't care what the shipper or the receiver says.
You gotta take control my friend. It's your CDL they're playing with.
Sure the company may or will pay the ticket but it still ends up on your lic.Western flyer and 281ric Thank this. -
Sealed Priority load. Total weight was legal and UPS usually has the tandems adjusted so it's legal but in this case the tandems were jammed all the way forward so I had to pile ties in front of the tandems and pull like heck to break them loose at the scale house. Not even really supposed to take a leak. Has to be run straight through with no fuel or scale stops. Company refused to pay ticket and said it's not their problem. Part of the reason I want out of this company and into running flatbed.

Sounds like you need a new company. And if they force dispatch you on loads with drop times that require you to run illegally (speeding) to make the delivery appointment, you can report the company to OSHA and be protected as a whistleblower. FMCSA regulations prohibit companies from scheduling and dispatching loads that are not legal to run. Personally, I'd just head to a new company.
And the two minivans that cut me off while merging over the last year both got nice little swirly marks cut into their side doors, and their drivers got distinctive driving awards from the officers that investigated the incidents. I spent $10 for new lug nut covers each time. -
Sounds like you screwed up a lot and blaming others for your issues. Time to be a little more professional.
Schism, tucker, double yellow and 2 others Thank this. -
I don't do the blame game, doesn't matter who did what, problems need fixed. I'm looking for advice on how to fix this and get back on track.

Be a better driver. That's how to fix it. See what you've done wrong and improve on it.

sherlock510 - This week when I pulled my DVR and CSA and realized this is no way to live and not where I want to be. Doing an objective assessment of my situation and looking at options to decide on a plan of action. I know I have a weakness in that when I work I get so focused on getting things done I get tunnel vision. Have to work on that some more.
sherlock510 Thanks this. -
You don't ever need to speed, learn to manage your time better, and LOSE WEIGHT AND GET HEALTHY. CPAP and being cramped in that truck you can fix by a better diet and exercise.
