People that talk trash about GPSs probably don't have one. They are an invaluable "TOOL". Massive time saver, especially if your on eorb and need every minute.
Hey rocknroll81, does the name "pigman" ring a bell?
It does, I have to figure out where though if in passing or in person.....

Pigman was a friend of mine that in the late '70's had a blue 359 Pete, and was on with Jakum Transport out of Sheboygan Falls, Wis. He was the guy that that did 4-5 Cal.to Wis. turns a month. After that went under, he drove for WITI out of Sussex as a rock hauler. When I was at Paul Schmit, we did a lot with WITI and we got to be good friends. His ex-wife married Hanke( Jeff?) and they started Hanke Trucking. Last I heard, Pigman was a foreman for Kraemer Road constr. in Plain, Wis.

Other benefits of GPS: constant ETA, location of all rest areas, truck stops and scales, traffic, alt routes, tolls and how to avoid them, mileage per state and instant ability to find detour with push of a button are just a few. Let me hear an argument against them.

Heres another tip, if you can't afford one, try and fuel exclusively at Loves, in 3-4 mths you'll have enough points to buy one!!! I get $6-7 / day added to mine, I never spend cash(over $100 on it still after i just bought new cb on it!)

Disclaimer: Use of GPS doesn't negate need to be able to get from a to b without it, it will fail at some point and you'll need to adjust on the fly.

i remember when i first started OTR. gps didn't exist then. team driving. had no idea where i was. how far i had to go. all that fun stuff. you just drove till you got there. then calling for directions.

when it comes to that aspect. trucking is a heck of a lot more fun these days with a gps. traffic alerts. no calling for directions. know where i am. and my eta and distance. amongst all the other useful information technology can provide.

i came back out on the road 3 years ago. no one expected me as they had no idea i was coming. i never called for directions. apparently no one was using gps 3 years ago. and they all expected phone calls.

these days, they know your coming and just expect you to show up. unless you call to let em know your delayed.

Same. When dad started taking me for the ride on 94 t800 with 3406B (it was like new when my uncle bought it at 100k miles), GPS wasn't known that time. always rode with my dad to NYC on Saturdays.

Boy, that guy sounds familiar, WITI is an O/O outfit if I remember, they had some pretty good looking trucks, was going to look into them back in the day, was just talking to another driver to see if he remembered Pigman had to think about that, and began talking about Hanke , he knows of a driver that been there for 20 yrs.? Is WITI still around ? I haven't seen there trucks around for a while but being on the road I don't get home during the week just the weekends......

Hi rock, no, WITI (Wisconsin Intrastate Transport Inc.) was/is a dump truck operation in Sussex. I'm not sure if they are around. How about "Breezely"? Did you know any Paul Schmit drivers? Heck, I may even know you too. I drove for Schmit from '78 to '82. Green Mack pulling a dump trailer.
