Rates tend to rise quote a bit during roadcheck. Just depends if you want to put up with it. I haven't decided yet. The few years I've been out, I hadn't been inspected (less than 5-10% of all drivers will be inspected), so it's not like it's even that great oddds. Just GET YOUR TRUCK FIXED. Go to the shop, get an annual done on it, that way if they pull you in, they might see you had a DOT done a week or two ago and just not care to check you out since they know you're 'on top of it'. Also, might be a good idea to go get it washed/waxed/polished. Shiny trucks tend not to generate as many eyeballs as the dirt caked, bungie-cord held-together trucks do.

This is something I've always said and I'm a bit anal about keeping the ride clean. If they see you obviously care enough about your ride to wash it and keep it clean it only makes sense you keep it up in other ares as well. I wash mine an average of twice a month, especially during the winter, and wash the engine every other time. This help indentify any possible leaks that may arise too.

Makes sense , I have been told that before .

Old tymer told me once , "if ya keep a clean rig chances are you will get waved on by"

then he also told me that washing a truck thats falling apart is like putting a bandaid on a hemroid , waste of time and money.

That guy had me laughing so hard .....

How's everyone fairing the big ticket push? I was lucky to have off most of the week, but have to run an empty trailer up to NJ from NC either Thursday or Friday and bobtail back. Not worried about the Penske tractor, but the trailer is old and rusty...all new rubber at least....

Early last year I was driving I-10 in Arizona, when they were conducting their own Operation Proctologist or whatever they called it. I noticed many trucks pulled over on the side of the freeway, and sure enough I was lit up by an inspector. She said I'd made an improper lane change by not signaling far enough in advance, which on its face was a lie. At freeway speed, having my turn signal on for at least three cycles before initiating a lane change by definition means my lane change was proper.

At any rate, under the pretext of an improper lane change she proceeded to inspect our log books and do an inspection of the truck. In the end she wrote a warning for the lane change and a warning for improperly logging sleeper berth time versus off duty time as a team, and again she wasn't correct in her interpretation of the rules. Ultimately it was all much ado about nothing and she only issued warnings because she likely knew that if she wrote an actual ticket for either "violation" it wouldn't hold up in court. The upshot was it delayed us close to an hour.

During the entire stop we were cooperative and friendly. When she explained the log book violation we discussed it with her and "agreed to disagree" and we were on our way.

I've run from WV, through OH, now in Gary. Only thing I've seen are a few IN troopers in the scales, but the CLOSED signs were out. That, and a few random stops along 70, but nothing unusual.

I have been thru California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado and they don't seem to be pushing too hard this year. I have gotten all green lights at scales and have not seen a single roadside checkpoint setup.
