So here is another TQL rant. Before I begin, I am a canada only carrier, do not go into the us, nor will I ever go into the us, so I have never had a need for a DOT or MC #. that being said. They had loads posted where I had 2 trucks sitting In Canada going to another point in Canada. So I got their carrier package filled it out and sent it back with everything they needed. Then they told me I was sent the 2013 package and need to fill out the 2014 package, so I did. Then they told me since I was a canadian carrier I needed to fill out the Canadian package. Did that too. Then they told me that I need to get a MC# to be put int their system. At this point I am fed up but I am this far into it so I figured what the hell. Do all the steps and get my DOT and MC#, but as we all know it takes 20-40 days for the process to be approved by the FMCSA once they get the insurance and all the other stuff they require. Carrier services said I am approved and in their system. So after wasting a day with them getting setup I call the broker for the loads, they are gone, but he has more for today, to call him in the AM. PERFECT. I call him this morning and told sorry there is a problem with your carrier package and we cannot give you the loads call the carrier services department. What a friggin waste of my time for all this crap. They are the WORST to try and get setup with.

So I called Carrier services, and they said the MC # needs to be active to be able to book loads. If they had told me that yesterday, I wouldn't have wasted my time, and money setting up my MC# they are a bunch of ####### there

Yeah I read the wonderful stories about TQL and thought I would make my own opinion, and it worked out they had 2 perfect loads for me. Guess I should have learned to listen better.

More of a general statement, but when you have more than an hour of flaming hoops to go through to get set up with a broker to haul a load at a worthwhile rate, you can pretty much count on that load being gone by the time you get it done.

The best example of this was one offer I had going back home out of central TX. The offer was two loads back to back, that could not be combined paperwork-wise (two separate loads), and one was inside TX. This was not long after we started up and did not have TX intrastate authority. The delay from the insurance company filing forms with TX was only 3 hours, but the second load to home was gone when it finally posted. So no enticement to book the first one at that point. The two loads only worked for me together. I have leveraged the TX authority many times since then, so it wasn't a total waste of time.

Another point to ponder is that the "logistics professionals" you engage with when soliciting loads usually don't know jack about trucking regulations. They know a little about HOS in order to schedule. If their cargo is OS/OD they'll know about permits and restrictions. But that's about it. If you question anything about requirements, don't depend on them to get it right. You will be the one paying fines or impounded if it goes wrong. Especially true with TQL, as the person you are working with was probably making smoothies at the mall not too long ago.

you said in your first post that everyone knows it takes 20 - 40 days to get active.

why would you think it was done overnight>???

you didn't completely waste your time. in 20 - 40 days you be able to book loads with any american carrier. including TQL. :biggrin_25519:

i'd have intrastate authority in every state that required it. you never know when a load might pop up for $7 a mile and going a very short distance. and there's a total of 40 loads. twas a very good weekend for me in north dakota that weekend.

I didn't know it takes 20-40 days, I ment it as " those of us who have had to do it, find out it takes that long" and having an mc# and having an active one are two different things.

Let me fill you in on a few things.
First that load was a ghost load. It wasn't there to begin with. It was bait to get as many phone calls with each one lowering the price on each call.
Second if you had gotten the load it would have gotten canceled before pick up if another person would do it for less.
Third the point of delivery could be as much as a 100 miles off from the posting.
Forth they might file a claim against your insurance if they find a good reason too

I'VE HEARD stories about shippers and receivers being 200 miles from where they are supposed to be. on TQL loads.

first time i heard about insurance claims. have to keep that one in mind.
