Think about it, a jet waiting in line to take off puts more fumes in the air than a truckstop full of idling trucks.
A container ship sitting tied to a dock makes more pollution than a truckstop full of idling trucks.
Why are so many trucks idling tonight?

Frankly, it's a mentality thing. You know, "real truckers never shut their truck off". It's stupid, wasteful and adds needless pollution to the air. Just one of those things that show how many truck drivers are ignorant and proud of it.
-
So im ignorant because I like to sleep comfortable? That was a ignorant statment to make driver
-
And who do you think you are that you should be able to be comfortable, companies are not paying for you to be comfortable, they pay you to eat, crap, sleep, and drive and not in that exact order.
you want to be comfortable stay home. -
I own my own truck so a company dosent pay for ####.....nobody deserve to sleep hot or cold...every talk about texting and driving or talking on the phone and driving is not safe...not getting a good night rest because companies are to cheap to buy a apu or let a driver idle is dangerous and a b.s company that I hope goes out ovlf business....dont they sleep good every night at home? Well so should the driver...that should be against the law to make a driver sleep hot or cold...Last edited by a moderator: May 10, 2014

Lol....lmao......take it easy. First off it's not my point of view but the companies, I fought the fight when I was a co. And basically that is the response one gets. I didn't care if I was a co. Driver if I needed to idle I idle, you know how many arguement I had about my high idle lets say in summer time I was running around 80 percent. I looked at it like this if they didn't like it fire me, or I'll just leave the truck where it was.
I am am an oo now, I try not to idle because I have an apu, but there are times in the winter and the summer where I may have to idle and I do, and as far as the idle laws, well heck with em, I have a dog in board so there really isn't too much one can say about it.realsupatrucka Thanks this. -
Lol okay. ...I can deal with a little cold...but maaan that heat does something to me...I stay in tx...
Lowa3468 Thanks this. -
Well i can. Handle the cold only as far as my bunk heater could maintain the temperature, but this last winter had to idle plenty single digits or lower gets to cold without idling.
And in the summer time I can handle a little heat but when I start to break a swear watching tv then it's time to idle as again apu isn't keeping up with keeping the truck cool.
but I did invest In a window curtain and it really improved the coolness in the truck.
next time I get home I am going to look into one of those inside ac units, (the kind that doesn't need to be stuck out a window,) that there might solve my problem for summers for good. -
Ran my truck for 14 hours friday, I am going to the environmental hippy none of your business hehl way down in the earth.
Can someone bless me ?
PS: Did not run AC or heat. It was 72 all day. Definitely I need some help

I'm stuck in the same boat. Company leased a new Volvo without an APU. I have to idle on cold or really warm nights. I'm referring to drivers who leave the engine running when they stop for a break, or even on mild nights. I have known drivers who say they never shut the engine down from the time they log on until they shut down to go home. That's just dumb.
