You're right. The smart thing to do is throw the light end into a strong wind, have the whole strap blow back and land in the water puddle beside you, and then crawl up on a 13' high load with a dozen straps in your arms, and gently lower them all down over the side. Throwing the hook end over a load that isn't going to be damaged by it isn't a problem. And, I don't worry about hitting people on other side, either. If they're dense enough to walk beside my trailer when I'm hurling chunks of steel over it from the business side, they deserve to get wacked in the lid with a chain. Thin the herd!

JK about wacking people in the head. I never throw a strap if I don't know for sure that the other side is clear. But, when I do throw a strap, I prefer to throw the hook whenever it's possible and safe. -
Hey, whatever works for you. I enjoy smh at the dented up sides of the tractor and trailer from hook throwers. Makes them look extra smart.

Throwing the hook means that you have to walk around your trailer to the other side to hook them then come back to the original side and winch it down.
SHC Thanks this. -
Who throws straps over their tractor?Ruthless, TwinStickPeterbilt and bergy Thank this.

Not everybody throws as straight as they'd like. I watched one guy throwing a hook end slam it into his sleeper. Laughed my ### off.

It's more a safety thing with throwing the hook end. On steel plates, don't really matter since they are only 2' off the deck. But get a load where it's 8' off and you throw the hook end can cause a lot of problems. Not only do they tend to go sideways and half the time they won't go all the way over. Plus, a lot of places will ban you for throwing the hook end. It's not about damaging the load as it is about damaging someone's headMJ1657 Thanks this.

You'd be surprised at how much easier it is to get a strap over a load by NOT throwing the hook end. You'd think having the hook inside would help, but it doesn't.

Geez..what a lame video. At least it's nice to know one of the wimminz from the office can come out and help wind up the straps
SHC Thanks this. -
