you can't train the unwilling to learn... and many people who enter this profession do so, via government programs, because they don't want to put in the effort to be employed. There are 100s of people in this industry that should never be here, and NO amount of training will make them a responsible driver, as they don't take responsibility for themselves.

Yeah, but look at the other posts in this thread... hell, look at the post which started this thread. If she's saying, "water is wet", it probably has something to do with the fact that people - likewise, "professional" drivers - aren't getting that. I don't really care for it when others state the obvious, either, but sometimes people put you in a position where your only recourse is to do that, so again, I'm not really seeing entitlement on her end. Like the adage goes, don't shoot the messenger.
As to the last part of your post, we would find ourselves in agreement. To that end, and how it relates to the original topic of this post, I've never really known Watkins-Shepherd to have the aforementioned reputation of being "truck stop fender benders"... now, in all fairness, most of my driving was in the construction industry, so I'm probably not as hip to the freight hauler world as I would be if that's how I'd been spending my days, but even then, it was still pretty routine for us to hear about the particularly notorious companies, and I still don't recall hearing Watkins-Shepherd among those conversations. But there were quite a few companies which did come up pretty frequently, and I'm pretty sure most of them had a substantially longer training period. It would almost make one think that discretionary hiring practices might come into play.

As for due diligence and what companies they associate themselves with, I personally tend to be of the opinion that what matters so much isn't whether they cringe at the sight of your company name, but rather, whether YOUR actions justify their cringing when all is said and done. Someone who has an accident-free career has an accident-free career, and that counts just the same whether they get that accident-free time in with one of these megacarriers or with a smaller one with flashier trucks. If you can use common sense, act on it, and do your part, then the name on the truck doesn't make a difference insofar as that goes. Either you get it or you don't.

I've really been trying not to, but after the b/s meter reaches a certain point, it becomes impossible to remain silent.

Somebody that has 0 experience has no business being any sort of "messenger". They should be too busy learning to open their mouths to preach to others.

I never said mega fleet victims couldn't be safe drivers, I merely pointed out the simple truth that regardless of their driving record, they'll be viewed as hazards by those who aren't aware of their personal driving history (99% of the world).

I don't want to feel like a troll, but you do realise it is 10 days of training after attending an approver CDL school.

"Watkins-Shepard Trucking has competitive pay for student graduates that have attended an approved CDL school that has prepared you to be successful in our 10 day advanced training"

Well, I've pretty much pointed out the gist of it. She stated something that a lot of people just weren't getting. Maybe it amounts to "water is wet", but, you know, someone did successfully sue McDonald's after burning themselves with coffee because there was no warning on the cup stating that coffee tends to be hot, so... take that for what it's worth.

She didn't say anything which in any way overstepped any boundaries in that post. It really doesn't take that long to notice what she pointed out, and it's really something that you could gather just from experience with life in general. So, shall we talk about who's really acting entitled here?

And I never said that you did. All the same, I stand behind my assertion that what matters above all is whether or not your actions justify it in the end. I've run into #######es in all shapes and forms, whether it be megacarrier sorts of drivers of fleets with an "elite" reputation. Or do you think that, when I'm driving on I25 in snow and ice in a Cobalt, with slow traffic both in front of and to the right of me, that I should somehow be less alarmed that the moron tailgating me drives a flashy Western Distribution truck, rather than a C.R. England or Swift truck? And yes, that did happen this past Winter. And I didn't need to know his driving record - some things are just reckless and idiotic, whether the person doing them has one month of experience, or several years of accident-free experience (in the later case, perhaps more so).
So again, either one gets it or they don't. If someone cringes a little at the sight of your company name, it's ultimately your own actions - not your company's - which ultimately determines if they have a reason to cringe. Your company doesn't decide if you go into this industry with a mentality of halfassing your way through it. YOU are the one in control of that vehicle, YOU are the one making those judgment calls, whether it be about whether or not you can back into that hole, whether or not you should slow down for road conditions, etc... ipso facto, you #### up, YOU are ultimately the one responsible, regardless of which company you drive for.
How one handles the decision making process is infinitely more important that whatever snide remarks are made on the CB when they see your truck in a parking lot.
