Maybe a vibration tripped the switch and cancelled the auto-shutdown.

    tangerineGT Thanks this.

I don't have auto shutdown or idle control installed on my truck, or if they're installed, they don't work.

For some reason , they don't have a auto shutdown , or a opti idle control like the freightliners do.

I've been having to idle the truck in some of this hot temperature when there's just no wind, that's the worst, rolling down the windows doesn't even help. But to idle all night long freaks me out that I'm going to get fined something from the company. (By all night, I mean my nights which are usually the afternoons and heat of the days) So I've been setting my alarm to go off every 2 hours while I sleep so I can wake up and turn it off for 2 hours, and then wake up 2 hours later drenched in sweat to turn it back on. Not getting the best sleep, but at least it's some sleep.

Waking yourself up every 2 hours to turn off or on the truck will be the death of you - and maybe many more people.

    Don't be stupid!!!!

Idle the truck as you need to, to get the rest that you REQUIRE!
You are putting everyone at risk otherwise.

The company does not fine you for anything.
It may get mentioned in a monthly report, but that is as far as it will go. Just tell your DM that you need to stay comfortable to get your needed rest.

    You are NOT a slave!!!

I spent winter 2012-2013 and most of summer 2013 without idling, winter was in wisconsin (mostly) and I didn't Idle, and I couldn't turn my espar heater on because my batteries were screwed up. I froze and melted because I respected my employer

30% Idle is actually pretty high, that means idle less than half of the time

like moose I only idle when I need to, so far I have only idled about 8 hours total in the past month but this week we are hitting the 100's so my idling will be going up. I drive and shut down around 3-5am on average so im bound to always be sleeping during the heat. My site manager and my DM has told me repeatedly to make sure I get my sleep since its more important and to idle the truck but I still try to manage it when I can by sleeping until it gets hot, wake up around noon then idle for the last few hours before beginning my shift. I also bought one of those tornado fans which work great, at least until its 85+ outside then the truck just turns into an oven.
