yea mine is missing the mattress and thus ther is a lip that keeps stuff from falling forward, but if you got cabinates put in professionaly im sure it would look great.

If you do use cabinets I hope you have something with a latch. No fun doing a panic stop and finding your treasures that were in the cabinets now going through the windshield!

The latch issue is easy can pick up really good latches from homedepot, lowes, rv centers, but that is a good point especially if others are thinking of doing the same thing, I always say it's the little things that will bite you in the end.

In order to remove the top bunk you first have to file paperwork with the Environmental Protection Agency to have an impact study done. There are some species of bed bugs that prefer the top bunk and I am pretty sure they are protected. Before the work is down make sure you have OSHA come out and inspect the work site. Really the work should be done by a union shop. Do you have workmen's comp? What kind of materials are you using for the cabinets? I hope they are from a renewable source. I am not sure you have thought this through. I call for a Congressional bi partisan investigation into your plans.

Never-mind, the NSA has furnished me with a transcript of your cell phone calls and from them I see you know what you are doing.

On that note, I was thinking of getting a swivel base for my passenger seat. Then I could turn and set up a little table to put the laptop on or working from. It looks like I would have loots of room to stretch out.

Good of point now that you mention it not sure how I would get the bunk part out? I know it won't fit through my side door and not even sure if it would fit out the driver side or passenger side door.

I have pulled them on Freightliners, they fit through the passenger door. No mention of your truck make etc though that I noticed. May have to loosen the passenger seat to get it out, but that is only 4 - 9/16" head bolts on most trucks.
On every truck I buy I pull both seats, put in a hardwood floor, and then only put the drivers seat back in. Holes are drilled for the passenger seat, but it stays wrapped up in plastic, in the shop.
The German Shepherd that is my riding buddy needs no seat to see through the windshield!
As already said, try the junkyards to see if they have any of the trucks that didnt have a top bunk but cabinets, and get them. Fleet trucks normally have a top bunk, and no cabinets, so try to spot an OO spec truck.
The past two trucks, I have got them with the full wrap around cabinets on the upper part of the bunk area, back wall. Amazing how much neater it looks than crap all over a top bunk, which I have seen guys do. I like my stuff organized and neat looking, so laying stuff on a top bunk is not an option for me.
The top bunks just unbolt from my experience, and there is no reason to remove the brackets etc. Use the brackets to bolt a brace to for cabinets if needed though.
