Just had mine a couple months ago. Very informative experience, actually. The officer was pleasant, sent out a packet showing me what I needed a month before he came. Since I chose to make sure I had everything in his packet ready, he just checked it over and left. Just remember, they can't eat you.
Dot audit coming!! Help please!!

Our experience was just like that of ISXunlike. I took everything he asked for in the checklist. I place each trip in a big yellow envelope w/its corresponding receipts(fuel etc), bills, invoice close it up. I write the dates the trip started and ended on the outside. After verifying the initial must have paperwork, permits, etc., he'd grab a log page and match it to the trip date. He'd look @ the dates and times and close it up. I was done in about an hour. Take what is requested. Try to be as neat as possible and all should go well.

What state are you in? Are you a carrier or OO? I thought automatic fail is where they revoke your DOT and MC? So they failed you by putting you on probation? how long were you on probation and what did it mean to be on probation and how did you get off probation? I am dreading my new entrant audit coming up in a month

did you have any accidents? If yes, did you tell the inspector of even the minor accidents you had? Thanks -
If you fail on something, does your MC get revoked permanently or temporary till you get that fail point fixed? Or do they stick you in probation even if you fail something major and you can keep running on particular conditions? I am getting ready for a new entrant audit. I am a single semi truck carrier.

I'm in South Dakota, but it's a federal deal, so I don't imagine it matters much which state you're in other than auditors are probably deployed regionally. My auditor came all the way up here from San Diego, and spoke very little English, at least not the way I do it. This audit is for helping you be a good soldier and getting your paperwork in order the way they want it. As far as I know, there is no punitive aspect to it, fines, oos, etc. I suppose if you don't have a medical card, drug consortium, CDL, etc., they may tell you not to run until you do. I don't remember how long my probation was, about a year I guess. I've never had a wreck, but if it's in your driver record, it'll be known to them. These DOT auditors have thankless jobs, and for good reason. If you can stomach it (I can't) act like they are helping you, and you'll do your best to stay in line from now on, and you'll get through. They'll give you a list of anything you need to work on, if you do that, you should be fine.
serozhah Thanks this. -
I feel like auditors are different between states. For sure inspections. I got 5 inspections in last 7 months lol. I know for a fact that Pennsylvania inspection is a lot worse than Texas one

I'm from Florida. My new entrant audit was in December. They also did mine online. I was very worried like you. But because I kept good records (logs, receipts, maintenance records, and medical card/drug test consortium) it was simple. If you are trying to be in compliance, you can look at it as more of an educational experience than a pass/fail exam. You will be informed of the documents and information they are requesting and you just submit that to them. They aren't looking to ruin your business. They're just verifying that you know what you are doing, and correcting any problems they find so that you can be compliant in the future.

yeah, im supposed to meet with the dot June 16 for an audit in person
. I wish i could do one online

Contact the officer and ask for a list of requirements. This isn't a trick gotcha system. What they are doing is making sure you understand the responsibility of your authority. So, in preparation for the exam, they officer should provide a list of things required. Have him e-mail it to you...
