I've been looking at WE's website, and one of their qualifications is that you have to pass a "physical health assessment" Anyone knows what this is or what it entails? Also, would anyone know if Western Express hires teams?
Thanks!

I can't believe there are still drivers who want to drive for this company.
mje, Brandson, TruckDuo and 1 other person Thank this. -

Opus, zoekatya, joseph1135 and 1 other person Thank this. -
As mentioned many times on the forum, beginners have to start somewhere.

Call and ask about teams; the website doesn't have info about teams.
I'm guessing, but the "physical health assessment" probably is about sleep apnea and some type of dexterity test depending on van or flatbed division. Can you squat to look under the trailer or can you properly climb up on a flatbed trailer. -
You should look elsewhere. Don't call them. You're only going to regret it later.

Most of the big companies have you go through a Human Performance Evaluation in addition to their DOT Physical It is, as China mentioned, a dexterity test of sorts. The one I did consisted of:
Baseline vital signs (pulse respirations and BP) then a bunch of squats, climbing up and down a ladder, walking around squatted, picking up and putting down a 30# weight, taking a dumbbell (5#) in each hand and spinning it in circles in front of your chest left then right 30 times each and pulling then pushing a sled with a 125# weight on it for 25 feet. They periodically checked my vitals during the process and after then a ten minute rest and checked them again. It basically simulated the various tasks a driver may perform. A lot of the big flatbed companies also have you lift a folded lumber tarp (8 or 10' drops - they weigh a good bit more than 30#) from the floor to a table the height of the trailer deck (or a weight the same as a lumber tarp).
It's all about Workman's Compensation Insurance. They get a break on insurance rate if they pre-screen applicants to make sure they are more fit than just the DOT Physical. -
I understand. I drove for them. But just like Joseph1135 said, I wish I had given those wasted 6 months of my life to a company who at least ACTED like they gave a #### about the drivers. By far the worse major carrier, in the US.Drac1985 Thanks this. -
I don't remember a separate "health assessment" but then again i try very hard to forget that whole month long nightmare i spent at western lol
as long as you aren't significantly overweight you SHOULD be fine.....
Good Luck
here's a little unsolicited advice though:
use the advanced search feature on here and read every thread related to the company before you go- if you decide to still go there- you will atleast be better preparedJustNva Thanks this. -
There you go superpet. Fixed it for you.
OP, I looked at going to Western Express about a year and a half ago. After reading through this website, I said definitely not. READ, READ, and READ again. Just type in Western Express in the top left search bar or go to the motor carrier section and click western express and read through it. I know newbies have to start somewhere but I would strongly suggest going somewhere else unless you have some felonies or something that will keep other carriers from hiring you.
