He said he was tired, and he could see from the "off-ramp" that every space was taken..lol.he got good eyes..its funny how drivers who get speeding tickets in this state then whine about how california is evil or how we are commies or some other excuse for violating our laws..goes for parking tickets too..

Hey Ohio will wake you up in a rest area just to do an inspection on you.LOL

Booooo! The OP made no mention of an 'evil' California or of being 'commies.' Don't miss the real issue here of parking problems nationwide. Have you not seen the pathetic overcrowded rest areas at 3:00 a. m. where 40 semis are crammed into an area with 15 or 20 spaces and spilling out into both the off and on ramps? It is unbelievable and unfortunately many people would be appalled if they witnessed such a spectical, but it only happens while normal people are sleeping and elves are baking cookies. It's a tragedy and something needs to be done.
I'm one who knows the helpless feeling of creeping slowly through an area hoping to find even an illegal parking spot only to pull back onto the interstate desperately needing a break. It sucks and something needs to be done about it.NavigatorWife, AfterShock, HomeTownHauler and 2 others Thank this. -
Just be thankful you were not delivering papers, you might have been shot at 37+ times (stopped counting then).

Perhaps I am mistaken but the "real issue" of this thread is that a driver received a parking ticket because he parked in the dirt area at the top of the off-ramp.
There is no way of knowing whether all of the available parking spaces in the rest area were taken, because the driver did not
enter the rest area to find out.
The driver was tired and made an error in judgement. We've all been there. For the driver's own safety, it's a never a good idea to pull off to the side of an exit ramp - where other vehicles are exiting the freeway at high speeds - and another driver more tired than you might make an error in judgement and rear-end you.bigdogpile and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
Oh the "real issue" I got from this thread, was that he was VERY UPSET because he got a parking ticket for parking in a no parking zone..well duh !!.Would you be just as upset if you got a ticket for doing 60 in a 55 , then try to justify it by saying you had a appointment time to meet ? That would be making excuses the same as saying you were tired..

So, as long as you are not "impeding traffic" you can park on the side of an offramp? How do you know if you will be "impeding traffic"?
Thats ridiculous! Let me give you a scenario (there are MANY but this is just one that happened to me about a year ago). I was northbound on I-17 at the 242 MP, 3:00 in the morning 21 feet wide and 18 tall. Highway patrol comes on the radio and says "we have a truck parked on the ramp". I had to exit to avoid the 15'9" bridge on the interstate. The lead officer started pounding on the guys door. I sat on the interstate (blocking it completely) for 20 minutes while this idiot looked for his underwear. Three escort cars, three highway patrol cars, a truck, and two utility trucks were sitting on the interstate for 20 minutes because some truck driver made an executive decision about parking illegally because he didn't think he would be "impeding traffic"...longbedGTs and HighCountry Thank this. -
Wow, a guy gets a parking ticket and the posters go after the guy. No mention he did it because he was sleepy, but lets give the cop a pat on the back.
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
For the OP... look at it this way...
Yes you got the ticket, but you also pulled off before you got tired enough to possibly cause an accident where there could have been a loss of life. Living to fight another day trumps any parking violation in my mind.
