How many of you have unlocked another trucks fifth wheel when that driver was away from his/her truck?

    Why would you do that?

Do you really expect someone to say they have?

Someone might do it if the other driver was being a total jerk in some way, or if a driver was a total jerk and simply wanted to make a bad day for someone else.

I've never had it happen to me. But, as a Swift driver, I always check.

I think anybody that would do that should have his/her CDL revoked and they probably would if they got caught by the man and go to jail to boot. Somebody could be killed as a result of that. I don't rat out truckers but I would if I saw one do that.

I'm going to start with the conspiracy theory. Someone in management followed the driver to give the company a reason to fire the driver. :biggrin_25519: Intended as a joke, but you never know.

When I went with Conway Truckload, one of the women in orientation told us she'd pulled 3 locking pins on drivers because they blocked her in a truckstop. She was kind of hardboiled, so I didn't want to argue, but if you pull the pin on a truck that's blocking you, you might not get out for a long, long time, right? Some drivers are like fishermen. It does happen, though, and equipment isn't perfect either. That's why I check my locking jaw every morning at pre-trip time. It is safer, but mostly it makes me feel better about dragging that 53' around all day.

It only takes a second to check your 5th wheel... I've made a habit of checking it whenever the tractor been out of sight... over and above PTI's.

    It only takes one knucklehead...!

You know they saying, "every one in prison is innocent". When a driver screws up and did not properly hook up and test for positive lock, and drops a trailer (or high-hooks) ... "somebody pulled my 5th wheel while I was away". I can almost guarantee this is the reality of these situations 90% of the time.

Edit: In other words, they dropped the trailer somewhere they weren't supposed to (truck stop) and bob tailed somewhere when they shouldn't have (against company policy) and failed to hook back up properly and needed an explanation.
