Is a CB Radio really necessary to have?

Thanks Stew, you know, it's just amazing how we got along without Smarty pants phones before. How else would we know the dog pooped on the floor or "Should I get the car washed , dear"? Oh I know, once in a while, some important news comes along, but if you're in a truck somewhere, what are you going to do about it? Don't get me wrong, I love my laptop, so I can access cool sites like this, but I don't need to take it with me everywhere I go.

    Stew209 Thanks this.

It's kind of simple. If you want one then get one. If you don't want one then don't get one. But don't let me stop the arguing here. Carry on.

I have my laptop with me so I can pay bills, and go online to pass the time. Smartphones are nice and all but I cant justify paying $100/month for one. I have a prepaid phone that cost me less than $10/month and sure its nothing fancy but I have it for one reason, which is to make phone calls.
I grew up without cellphones or the internet, so I could careless about having these luxuries.

I don't need a smartphone so I can check everyones Facebook status every 5 minutes and find out what you had for breakfast. I would love if there were no cell phones because then people would actually have to talk. Imagine these young kids if there was no more texting...there heads would explode.
The world was just fine without these smartphone/computer gadgets.

very valid point. its aalso good tool to have at places that you either have a working one to get info quicker or you sit in a lounge in uncomfortable chairs and wait for some person to get off his/her butt like they arent getting paid already to do almost nothing but has an attitude about it, and give you info.

Same here, I have just an old "Star Trek" phone for emergencies, and it still baffles me, with all you hear about, how bad texting and driving is, I STILL see young people staring at their phone and driving. I feel weird just looking at them for a second and then I look at the road, and look back at them a few seconds later, and they are still texting. A good 10 seconds or more they never looked up. Pretty bad.

Yes there will come a time where you will need one due to weather, traffic, etc.

I don't think they are Necessary.
    Not even close.

I would recommend getting one though, even if its just a cheap one.
Sorry Super Truckers, I'm not spending $100 on a CB.

Oh and I don't play the CB Game at Customers most will call you nowadays. (Some still won't)
Whenever I am at a Customer, my CB is ALWAYS broken.

I agree with this guy^^^. I've got one, but it only comes on in bad weather and/or traffic jams. I don't need to hear half the junk some drivers feel the need to spew over the radio for all, with in frequency range, to hear.

But it has saved me in icy weather before. It's nice to keep on during those times just so you can plan accordingly if you hear about an accident 10 miles ahead. In icy, snowy conditions, the last thing you want is to be caught by surprise.
