If I had a Cascadia or ProStar again, I would not use the extra lights. I never did with those trucks.
But like I said, I can't see enough with the crummy Volvo low beams.
I'm really sorry it bothers you. But sometimes I have to run at night.

So did I Moosetek13 , so did I. For the biggest part of my career with GSF I ran from 10 pm til lunch time. 90 % of my driving was done AT NIGHT. For the last 15 years or so I ran a West Va. run twice a week in the summer-time , and a Myrtle Beach run 3 times a week in the winter , so my routes were mainly on lesser traveled roads and not the the interstates. Now granted I never drove a Volvo., mostly International's and Freightliners , and towards the end mostly Sterling's. It really is a choice that each of us have to make....I just think it's much safer to not run fog lights. My opinion , yours isn't the same. We each must decide , what we each deem to be the safest way , for each of us to operate....simple fact....I really never saw the need for fog lights unless it was foggy. Like I told corneileous , I'm not judging anyone who runs their fog lights....I just don't see now or ever saw the real "need" to run them constantly. Be safe.....

I was driving thru the Oregon mountains last night with my fog lights on....uh oh!!!! But at was raining in some parts, so it was okay to run my fogs. I run my fogs at night time to increase my visibility so I can see everything that I possibly can. I run lots of mountains and wildlife are everywhere from deer, elk, bears, etc, and if running my fogs allows me to see them that much sooner the better. If you don't like people running their fog lights then find a different job, or just look in a different direction if they bother you.

Just said the same thing in another post Stew209......run them if you want. , your choice. You new age truckers need to read the entire thread before you comment...BTW there Stew209 I'm retired, don't need to find another/different job. Ran through the West Va mtn's for years , never had any trouble seeing the wildlife with just the headlights.....If you're out-running your ability to see then your driving way too fast......think about it. Those fog lights can't make all that much difference , if they did their use would be mandatory , not a personal choice.

Then do what I did and upgrade your low beams, I had too because these new volvos have the low beams of a bicycle. I upgraded all my lights to a euo hi/low beam set makes alot of difference.Moosetek13 Thanks this.

So far, all you've shown me is opinion.....
Fine, you wanna call me arrogant because I choose not to agree with you and continue to do something that isn't wrong unless it's in a state that outlaws it, be my guest. That's what's wrong with this country, something offends someone or, someone does something someone else doesn't like, therefore it must be stopped.
Lol, I don't have a chip on my shoulder towards someone with more experience than I but I do however have a problem when someone tries to make someone feel insignificant just because they have more experience.
Misguided?? How so? Sounds to me like you're just trying to force your opinion on me telling me to stop doing something that you claim is unnecessary.
Lol!!!
Explain this..... How is it California and Oregon are the only two states that require trucks to only travel 55 miles an hour and the rest dont? Yeah, it may be safer, to an extent but, if its such a good idea, why don't other states follow suit and why did Ohio, Illinois and Indiana abolish it?
Another one...... Some states require your headlights to be on in the rain when windshield wipers are on, during the day. Safer, yeah, but if it's such a good idea, again, why don't other states require it?
My point, just because the law doesn't recognize whether or not a certain practice is safe or not, doesn't matter.
If every state required the use of fog lights at night, would that make you happy or would you still complain and rant an rave about how unnecessary they are?
You're right, it is a choice and I will continue to exercize that choice when I feel they are necessary.
This statement kind of goes against what you've been saying, doesn't it?
Um, okay. I know you said "sometimes" but, would you say the same thing to a driver with as much or more experience than you that would disagree with you?
There's nothing wrong with my attitude just because I disagree with you.
I'd wish you the same but you're retired.......... -
I'll admit, those Cascadia headlights are awesome. Back when I ran one, I very rarely ran the fogs, much less the highbeams on interstates at night and never had a problem seeing in the darkness.
-
See where this is going??
People like you can't understand why others feel they are needed and people like me can't understand why people like you have such a problem with them, saying they are "blinding" you. I'm not bothered by them. Never have been and if I ever do, maybe it's time to stop driving after dark.
The only lights at night that bother me are highbeams that aren't turned off for oncoming traffic, highbeams in my mirrors, improperly aimed lowbeams and fog lights and, any other light that is not for highway use. -
wow we have a school yard fight to watch whoohoooo
rockee Thanks this. -
Always has to be a smart arse pop up somewhere.............
